So...a while back I started a thread called "Popular Bands You Hate" or something similar. So I was thinking it might be kind of cool to do a thread for each popular genre (Start a new one weekly or monthly or something)

So, here's this one.

The joy and hope of an alternative
Have become its own cliche
-Dead Kennedys, Chickenshit Conformist

I say Nine Inch Nails.

Are coldplay and radiohead still popular? If so I vote for them.

They're alternative, right?

so what are we supposed to dicuss here? our least favorite artist from the 'alternative' genre? what do you mean with alternative? most things that are sold as alternative are actually just as popular and conformist like most 'real' pop-bands. it's just a marketing word.

"Alternative" is a ridiculously broad term, since it simply means "outside the mainstream." Underground hip-hop could be considered
"alternative." Define your terms clearer.

All of them.

Fallout Boy. Also System of a Down. Both need to never sing another lyric or play another chord again.

Yeah, I was working on it.

I apologize the poll options aren't the greatest. I was basically going off the Wikipedia page.

Notice the word "popular". Therefore, not "Outside the mainstream"

Then what is your definition of alternative?

Nickelback and their endless variation on ONE song.

Lyrics aside, Raznor generally makes some pretty good music. And the lyrics on the newest album, Year Zero, are actually decent.

I'd have to go with Death Cab For Cutie. The lyrics and music are both pretty dull. And the leader singer has basically no personality.

Modest Mouse might've gotten my vote, but Johnny Marr is part of the band now, so I just can't bring myself to do it.

Dashboard is a damn good song and you know it.

What the mastersez at Wikipedia tell me.

I thought I could think of more Alternative, but I couldn't. So I just wound up grabbing stuff off wikipedia.

I'll do better next week.

I'll try to start a new thread.

Again, I ask.

When the hell did Husker Du ever become popular?

If not popular, certainly influential.

Very influential, but the fact they're on the poll (and indeed under the label "Alternative") completely voids this thread.

Do that. I'll lock this one.
