Customised internet radio. Actually loving it at the moment. Everyone else's views, those who have/haven't tried it? What do you like/dislike etc

It's a bit limited. A lot of stuff I like listening to isn't on there. Though considering it's an American website, I guess I can't be too surprised it doesn't have obscure English bands on there. :(

It's a rather nice attempt, the best it has been done on the matter

It's a supply problem. There's no clear way to obtain (obscure) music from the rest of the world, when it's not on major US labels and/or being promoted heavily in the US.

Still, I'm sure they're still eager to hear your suggestions, and get it for you if they can.

They are very open to contribution. I sent them some venezuelan music and they added it to the system. I also add they are a quite polite and nice bunch

Surprisingly enough, my favourite so far has been kaiser chiefs radio, which came up with The Capes, a very obscure English band.

Its a brilliant tool, and I wager it will only get better in time as more music is added to its database.

Its a shame that to register you have to cite an American 'zip code'. I'd think that if they have a look they'd probably see a disproportionately large number of people from '90210'.

I really love it. I like how there aren't sound commercials inbetween the music but just on the page as visuals instead (a real plus). I also like how it selects other music you might like for you and the thumbs up/down feature with options for a little band/artist history. The only thing I haven't figured out it how to select music based only on genre (i.e.: baroque), plus I tried adding classical composers and it didn't come up with them. Maybe this isn't an option?

Enjoy it while it lasts. Pandora, along with all other forms of free internet radio, is most likely dead (http://arstechnica.com/news.ars/post/20070416-internet-radio-dealt-severe-blow-as-copyright-board-rejects-appeal.html).

On this, received an email from Tim Westergreen the founder...petition link is here. (http://capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/home/)

Hi, it's Tim from Pandora,

I'm writing today to ask for your help. The survival of Pandora and all of Internet radio is in jeopardy because of a recent decision by the Copyright Royalty Board in Washington, DC to almost triple the licensing fees for Internet radio sites like Pandora. The new royalty rates are irrationally high, more than four times what satellite radio pays, and broadcast radio doesn't pay these at all. Left unchanged, these new royalties will kill every Internet radio site, including Pandora.

In response to these new and unfair fees, we have formed the SaveNetRadio Coalition, a group that includes listeners, artists, labels and webcasters. I hope that you will consider joining us.

Please sign our petition urging your Congressional representative to act to save Internet radio: http://capwiz.com/saveinternetradio/issues/alert/?alertid=9631541

Please feel free to forward this link/email to your friends - the more petitioners we can get, the better.

Understand that we are fully supportive of paying royalties to the artists whose music we play, and have done so since our inception. As a former touring musician myself, I'm no stranger to the challenges facing working musicians. The issue we have with the recent ruling is that it puts the cost of streaming far out of the range of ANY webcaster's business potential.

I hope you'll take just a few minutes to sign our petition - it WILL make a difference. As a young industry, we do not have the lobbying power of the RIAA. You, our listeners, are by far our biggest and most influential allies.

As always, and now more than ever, thank you for your support.

Only if you want to listen to artists under labels that don't want their music to receive more exposure. I couldn't care less if said labels want to limit their own profits.
