I have seen some that claim to be snuff or have been labelled as such, but I question their truthfulness.

What, you thought you couldn't discuss porn on here so you'd go for snuff movies instead?

No...

I'm just wondering if anyone has ever seen one, and if so, what their reaction was.

Personally, I have neither the guts nor the intention to see one, but to each his own.

Best Modbaiting thread. Ever.

I've seen 8mm, and that's the closest I'll get.

Murder-as-entertainment isn't my cup o' tea...

(Also, if you really wanted candid answers to this type of question, then I don't think a public poll was the way to go...)

Given that I had to look the term up on wikipedia to figure out what it is, the answer is obviously no.

I watched Faces of Death when I was a teenager. Afterwards I wondered why.

That's about as close as you can get, I guess really...

i've never seen one, and i wouldn't want to either.
and i'm sure such movies exist, if you search hard enough you can easily find a movie from decapitions in iraq by terrorists, or the execution of saddam etc.

It's funny really. Similar things are seen on mainstream media and few take any severe emotional connection with them. We've all seen images of bombs landing on buildings and occasionally people (albeit often through an infared camera), and the famous image of a person jumping from a flaming world trade center or thich quang duc burning himself alive with gasoline doesn't give most of us nightmares...none of us find them particularly pleasant, or want to see them at all, but many of those images become part of our popular culture nonetheless. Even without looking for them, we will inevitably come across them.

And yet the reactions exhibited by people to a turtle being killed, gutted, cooked and eaten whilst watching a movie called Cannibal Holocaust were much more profound. Somehow the death of an animal evokes more disgust than that of a human.

I don't understand. Humans are weird. I dare say I feel desensitised to images of human death - unless, of course, they're videos where people are killed for camera and commercial gain rather than merely captured on it - but I sincerely doubt any of those actually exist (you would have to be pretty stupid to release something like that with the intent of making money, wouldn't you?). As I said in my earlier post, i've seen movies that have claimed to feature on screen killings, but it's all bullshit.

Aha, but videos like those aren't usually released for commercial profit; and killing someone on camera isn't the only purpose or reason behind the deaths there. Such images can be circulated by the media. They aren't really "snuff". Depending on your personal definition I guess.

oh, i thought that snuff movies were movies in wich real people got killed, without special effects etc.

Yes, but specifically ones in which people were killed for the sole purpose of being murdered on camera. Pictures of people in accidents and such don't count, but that's the closest you can probably come.

They exist. They're not common (thank goodness) but they exist.

Can you prove that? I've no doubt that there have been a few sick fucks out there that filmed killing someone, but I doubt any of them did it just so they could package up a thousand copies and sell them. It's not impossible, but I have to express sincere doubt.

Well, the best "proof" I can personally offer is that a good friend of mine has seen one. I obviously can't know what the murderers' primary motives were, but there exists a video on the internet of a young woman being tied up and then having her head methodically smashed in. My friend was looking for bondage porn and found that horror instead.

According to Snopes.com they don't exist.
Al Goldstein, publisher of Screw magazine, has a standing offer of $1 million for anyone who can come up with a commercially sold snuff film. That offer has been in place for years. No one has yet laid claim to it.
