Basically, it was one of the earliest boy bands. They consisted of young teen boys and became very popular when they starred in a series of short music videos during ABC's saturday morning cartoon schedule. As the years went by, they replaced members as the older members' voices changed with puberty.
Ricky Martin was an early Menudoite. Which in and of itself is enough reason to drown them all. :p

Well, they were the big blast during my pre teens years. (yeah, I am in the same age group of WYTYG, do not comment). I was a pre teen during the big years of Menudo.
During those years, Menudo here in Latin America was the big dilemma, you either loved them, or hate them. Most girls loved them, most boys hated them, as happened later with the Back Street Boys in the anglo saxon world. I am even surprised that Menudo was such a known band in the US, I always imagined they were more like a Latin America phenomenon.
Being anti-mainstream as I was, (and to a certain extent, I still am), I hated them. I am still figuring which factor was the most influential in my hatred, first, if the band really sucked that bad. Second, if I was just too stubborn to accept something that everyone in school and out of it seemed to like, or my dedication to classical music back then saved me from being swallowed by the tide. However, even myself, back in the day, had to acknowledge, extremely secretly, that they were hot. Back then, right now, they look almost ridiculous to me.
Yet, I still remember "Súbete a mi moto", damn, damn, some things do not dissappear with time.
