Lieutenant Felix Carman wrote a 5,500-word diary for The Times, but has been stopped from handing it over.

The disclosure represents yet another policy change by the Ministry of Defence.

When the 15 captives returned from Iran, they were encouraged to sell their stories — a decision that prompted an outcry. The MoD responded by banning them from selling their stories but allowed them to speak to journalists.

Lieutenant Carman spent two days writing an account of the group’s capture by Iranian forces during a search of a ship in Iraqi waters. He was expected to reveal details of their 13 days in captivity, including how he was threatened and forced to play chess for Iranian television cameras. He was also going to shed light on the sometimes tense relationships with guards and between the captives.

Lieutenant Carman was asked to pass the diary to a media co-ordinator for the Navy. He and The Times, which was not paying him for his account, were then told that permission had been refused.

hmm
maybe the "media coordinator" saw something he did not like.

This is the result of the MoD bending to public pressure rather than deliberate manipulation of information. The response of the British public to the initial permission for the captives to release their stories was absolutely shocking, but the public gets what the public wants.
