Here’s something that leads to allot of thinking: what are your hobbies?

Now I suppose NSG comes as a hobby (I usually call it political science and economics) but what else do you do?

I myself can think up jogging and other working out and that’s about it (though I have been giving meditation and yoga a go it just hasn’t really done much yet)

Right now, mainly running. I´m doing an average of 40km/week, which I´m trying to improve. And next month I want to run a 10km.

Besides that, music. Also one of my friends want me to teach him chess, so I guess Ill start playing it with him, at least for a while.

Writing, reading, chess, philosophy/politics, history... I used to fly but it's so expensive I haven't in a while. Right now I'm reading through the Criminal Code just for the hell of it. So mainly intellectual pursuits - not a whole lot of sports and such. Also occasionally guitar, but my friend is borrowing my guitar and amp at the moment, so I can't play right now.

I have some sort of mental block that makes me think I don't have hobbies but rather things I'm going to do on some level 'professionally'...sometimes that works out, sometimes it doesn't.

Something I really dig and get into that would be a hobby, except it doesn't require me to do much, is old media. I like watching old serials and old time radio programs.

Some of my past hobbies have been racing R/C cars and playing paintball. I still have much of my R/C and paintball gear, it's just I don't have the time or money to do much of it right now.

I've also been modding a computer case recently (Lian Li PC-70), for water-cooling and 120mm fans (IMO, 80mm fans are made of fail).

You questionin' me? Don't question me.

You don't really get the full effect unless you watch the reels turn.

Question me some more and see what I do.

My brother raced R/C cars. He wouldn't let me drive them until I convinced him it'd be fine. Into the first turn I launched the dune buggy off the banking and into a wall, breaking a tie rod. When he went around to see if someone could get him a replacement everyone said, "I didn't know those broke..." which would be followed by him giving me an evil glare...

My first time racing pan cars on a flat carpet oval, I launched my RC-10L off one of the non-toothed steel harrow disk (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.agri-auto-components.com/gifs/meera5.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.agri-auto-components.com/harrow.html&h=100&w=595&sz=11&hl=en&start=12&um=1&tbnid=Wp0ed6asE4nyzM:&tbnh=23&tbnw=135&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dharrow%2Bdisk%26svnum%3D30%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Doff%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG ) that we used as corner markers. Snapped my brand new graphite axle (was over $30, IIRC), and that was only in the second qualifying heat. Someone gave me one of their older fiberglass axles, which worked well for me until I realized I had no clue how to set up a pan car (I ended up getting into 4wd sedans at that point, with a Yokomo YR-4M2).

Science and technology, African culture and history, economics, philosophy, and writing are some of my hobbies. I also like swimming, golfing, and going for walks or hikes on the beach near my house.

Some things I'm looking in to include programming and coin collecting.

Christmas is coming and the bells are ringing as it approaches.
As we plan for Christmas we go out and prepare.
We buy gifts for our friends and family.
Many hours we spend cooking, cleaning, and organizing for our parties.
We all hope to see the happy faces on Christmas Eve.

As we watch them open our gifts to others we await that gleaming smile of delight.
When we see that smile we glow with warmth
After the presents are all open we go sit down and await the Christmas feast.
When the food comes everyone fills their plates to the brim.
They eat till they can not eat anymore.

After a joyous time at home, we leave for Christ’s birthday celebration.
We go to give praise and celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
The sounds and music of the mass fill the air.
As the choir sings we all began to join in.
After the mass ends we all go home to await Old Saint Nick.

It's nice, but my stuff is often dark, cryptic, and not at all entertaining.

I care more about fencing anywho. :D

Um, a beer fridge won't look as nice as my case will, once I'm done with it (vivid blue exterior, white interior, and a 5" LCD in the front). That, and small refridgerators aren't capable of cooling a constant heat source like a computer. It's been tried.

creating and exploring. and these are what gratify.

many and diverse are the forms i have engauged in.
all having in common that my practice of them is noncompetitive and relatively low risk.

they don't invoulve collecting for the sake of collecting. that to me is a con game.

and like here, some involve simulating the kind of world i'd rather be living in.
that's what i come here for. in the all too often vain hope of being able to.

besides trains and making 3d worlds on the computer and reading speculative fiction, i've also played a number of musical instruments, none of them ever proffessionaly, and spent a good deal of my adolescence taking pictures. of places mostly. and trains.

that was my first love. i was less then a year old, and this was in 1949, when i saw my first miniature railway. of course i suppose it helped that my dad worked all of the part of his life that overlapped with mine for the big ones.

Reading and writing obviously (NSG is an extension of that), anything to do with history, politics, arm-chair psychology, online games, role-playing, and high tech gadgetry. I've been fencing for about a year and a half now and love it! It's a great way to keep in shape... and collect battle scars. I'm pretty damn good with Foil and I'm looking to take up Épée one of these days. It's cool to see a couple guys here who fence.

Sex. Lots and lots of sex.

Besides that, I consider myself pretty good at chess, and I challenge all "chess players" to a chess match. Through the intrawebs.;)

I like reading books, I'm fond of video games, I like watching movies, I play piano and guitar (as well as listening to music in general), cards, magic tricks, as well as enjoying stuff once in a while.

I tackle things and/or people, cause mischief, play in mud, entertain my children, get entertained by my children, boink my wife, go out with friends, play paintball, corrupt my nephews, and occasionally perform complex quantum physics calculations. :)

Note: Despite my most sincere efforts, I cannot perform all these activities simultaneously. :(

Biking, nunchaku, shooting, shooting, shooting, watching bad movies, and I plan on signing up for Wing Tsun.

I'd like to say I play paintball but I only go a couple times a year.

Other than spending far too much time on this forum, I tend to consume copious quantities of alcohol on weekends, play Dungeons and Dragons with age-old friends, play strategy games (Axis and Allies in particular) with the same age-0ld friends, or waste hours away playing Civ IV. I also have a fascination with historical fiction, and snatch up a good book once in a while. I used to be really into movies, but that passion has rolled down a little.

I enjoy spending time on NSG, listening to music, and watching anime. I've also been getting back into Magic: the Gathering and started spending a bit of money on new cards. I used to play computer games, but not anymore until I get a new computer. I'm also interested in reading novels and books on philosophy, but I'm too lazy to read and I have a large fine at the library, which I don't want to pay any time soon.
