Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the US install a heap of their current enimies into power?

Did they help Saddam at one point in getting into power?
I'm pretty sure the US kitted out Ossama Bin Laden and his crew, and put the taliban in power.

In other cases they messed with countries that probably did not even know the US existed and the people got pissed at them.

Or am I way off here?
