"I Had To Deal With the Islamophobe"

So, a while back, someone posted this picture (http://img405.imageshack.us/img405/7145/yankcarqh2kr9.jpg) somewhere on the General forum. I thought it hilarious, and made it my background after saving it to my disk. Never did I think I would see it again :p

So, here I am minding my own business outside a liqour store scratching off a few lotto tickets, and this truck pulls up. I notice it says "No Terrorists in Boone County" and this guy who seriously looked like an inbred redneck in desperate need of a shower got out and picked himself up some booze. And, as I was pulling out, I recognized the rear end of that truck, right down to the license plate.

"Shit, that guy lives in my neighborhood" is the first thing I thought, then I thought to myself "I'd seen that truck before..."

Well, yeah, I did. Crescent Springs, Kentucky, if anyone's specific.

Am I the only person who finds it supremely ironic that that guy is driving a gas-guzzling Ford F-150 truck whose fuel almost certainly comes in part from Saudi Arabia?

The only troops he's supporting are Saudi-financed terrorists...

Wow, reading some of the bumper stickers, I have to wonder if this guy is part of the KKK or Neo-Nazi group.

That number of bumper stickers is a wee bit excessive. Seriously, how many drivers would have time to read all of those? Anyway, most of the bumper stickers are too small to read unless you were to tailgate him. He could have just wrote "I hate all muslims" in huge letters so everyone around him would know what a piece of scum he is.

Nah, my money's my money. I spend it on scratch-off's. Although I did win $30,000 about two months ago, that's another story...

Maybe it was New Mitanni or F1 Insanity. I Can't Believe It's Not Kimchi lives in Virginia so couldn't be him.

Be a laugh riot if this guy was to drive all the way to Quantico and parked his truck at the Marine Islamic Center. During prayer.

Why didn't you do something like inform him about where his fuel comes from, or otherwise mess with his head in a manner that might have bothered him because a huge internet forum populated by hundreds from all over the world were laughing at his ignorance?

Uhh... damned if I'd be one to take that tack with this guy, Ky. I think you'd be far better off surreptitiously getting his car on video, hopefully on multiple occasions, and then cutting a video to the beat of 'Cars' by Gary Numan and posting it on Youtube or something.

It's probably some kind of modern art nonsense.

And if it isn't... then you should stop worrying about that one guy and start worrying about who is manufacturing these things for sale. Some of those bumper stickers look professionally done, which means that there's a company out there who is staying in business at least in part through selling these things.

Has anyone pointed out that this guy has a disabled veteran plate? I wonder if he was wounded in Afghanistan or Iraq? That may be a source of this guy's pure hatred. However there is not an excuse for that kind of crap.

If I was reasonably sure he didn't live in proximity to where I live, I might be somewhat more apt to engage him - but the worst a stupid redneck could do to me is far greater than to beat me up. He might be just enough of a turnip that he'd use a weapon in such a confrontation - or, use a weapon in a subsequent confrontration (to exact revenge for having earlier been verbally tongue-lashed in public). While I might hold him in contempt, I don't actually hold Fate in contempt, and if ever there was a perfect example of going well out of your way in order to tempt Fate, this would be it.

Ah, yes, because clearly if I were to go to war and I became disabled I would deem all members of the nation who attacked me as viscous scum and do my best to foster as much hate for them and their religion as possible.

I'd point out that Fate is a philisophical concept and as such does not actually exist--we merely perceive events that do not go in our favour after we do something risky as "provoking Fate" but it is purely an invention of our perception--but that would be missing the point. I see what you mean...still, the hate fostered with that truck disturbs me...while I wouldn't be able to stop him--nor would I try--I would like to exercise my right of free speech and freely insult and otherwise mock him for it.

As do I...though it is doubtful, since it's built into the side of a hill and as such is not likely to collapse, or not as likely as it might be otherwise, anyway.

And that's exactly what I'd suggested the OP do, though the method I outlined is indirect. But it would reach a wider audience, and the 'egg' would only be on the redneck's face.

Well, in that case, I urge the original poster to follow your advice...with luck the internet can have a good laugh and this redneck can be embarrassed and maybe--just maybe--consider the folly of his hatred after all.

That would be genius :)

If I ever happen to have my camcorder on hand and I see the guy again, I'll be sure to shoot some film. (My buddies and I are shooting a drunken golf movie, so the camera spends a lot of time in cars/golf carts).

I doubt it. The guy looked like he was about 50 years old and he desperately needed a haircut/shower/shave.

They do have high standards in my opinion. I served with some very competent men. As far as L E that was her best defense. Unfortunately there will always be some idiots that slip in.

My point exactly: What is to keep this one from having slipped in?

Edit: (The whole Lynndie England event did give me an idea for a cover and name of a Weird Al Yankovic album: Him standing in a courtroom in a suit, except lacking pants (the usual cartoonish polka-dot underwear replacing them), looking up at a judge with an expectant and serious look. The name of the album would be "Pleading Stupidity".)

Not ironic. Ironic means opposite of what you would expect. Since Bush started running I have seen exactly one modest vehicle with a pro-Bush sticker. All the others are giant SUV's, jeeps, pick-ups, and hummers.

It would be ironic if he were driving a hybrid powered taxi.

There are a lot of companies that sell custom made bumper-stickers these days, and someone who gets by with a day job could just do contemptible bumper stickers as a sideline.

I think it would be better to simply satirize the guy by putting a bunch of stickers on his own car saying things like "Ethnic Slur" and "Bigotry" and "Over-zealous Nonsense" and "Hypocrisy".

I need to apologize to the author of this post. At first glance, when I casually came across this thread and skimmed it, I thought, oh, just an over reaction. After all, "No terrists in bluhbluh county" isn't exactly islamophobic. Then I saw the picture.

I'm sorry for two reasons; one, that I assumed, and two, that you had to see that truck.

It would be a different story if they were even remotely funny, then one could chalk them up as gawdy jokes. Perhaps even chuckle. That however, is just plain wrong.
