Computer help

I fail at computers, so I'm hoping someone here can help me.

It's to do with the sound device (I think).

I can listen to iTunes on my computer, and I am right now.

But the little volume icon, when I click on it, just comes up with an error message. When I go to the Control Panel, it says that I have no audio devices.

So, I can listen to iTunes, but cannot listen to anything on YouTube. Mind you, I was listening to things on YouTube this morning and cannot recall anything spectacularly disastrous having happened to my computer...

EXCEPT for the fact that earlier today, when I turned the computer back on, it was ITUNES that wouldn't play, but YouTube was fine.

Argh. Anyone? Or even anyone with good questions about the above ramblings that might help me to pinpoint wtf is wrong with the dying laptop?

my advice to you, is to pull the pannels off your computer, and have a look at the motherboard, find the name of the motherboard - could be an Asus something or other - and then go onto the webpage of the company that made it (google what you find written on the motherboard) and try to download a new sound driver for your comptuer - it sounds like you have a faulty sound driver.

hope this helps!

I suggest you uninstall your sound and monitor drivers and then reinstall them. This will solve all of your display problems.

Both sound like good plans. Either try reinstalling your sound driver. Or get a new one!

I'd suggest reinstalling and if it still doesn't work then get a new one.

If all else fails then a new sound card might be in order!

If nothing else works at all, just get rid of Itunes. That piece of slag is the source of the problem, I'd bet.

Of course, if you've got an Ipod, this could be tricky...

reinstall :D. Does windows media player work? If you don't want to open the back of your PC up then download and run Belarc advisor, that will give you info on your motherboard.

http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

Then you can search for the drivers, or you may in fact have an actual sound card which it should also show...best i can do right now without thinking more about it, but are you sure about the audio devices thing? On control panel go into sounds and audio devices and then into hardware, make sure their all working and if not try troubleshoot, that can *sometimes* work :P.

Well, I have determined that if I roll back my sound driver, and then re-upgrade it, it usually works for a little while before failing again.

I don't know if that helps, but it proves that my computer is just as retarded as I am.
