Could you tell the difference between Pepsi and Coke blindfolded?

Probably not.
The experiment, a laboratory-controlled version of the famous Pepsi Challenge, revealed that flavour seems to be the last thing that consumers rely on in their preference for Pepsi or Coca-Cola.
When asked to taste blind, they showed no preference. However, when the participants were shown company logos before they drank, the Coke label, the more famous of the two, had a dramatic impact: three-quarters of the tasters declared they preferred Coke.

I just recently found out that Pepsi has a bit more "lighter" taste, meaning not so much of the taste itself, and is a bit sweeter. That's why I personally prefer Cola.
Probably not.

I can tell the difference, though....especially when drank with vodka. But yes, I can tell the difference between the two.

I absolutely could, and have. Pepsi is much sweeter. But then, I used to drink a lot of both, so maybe my palette has just been trained.
That said, I don't really have a preference. Sort of like any other kind of food, it's whichever you want at any given moment that you will prefer. You know, cravings. The taste, however, is easy to tell apart. To me, anyway.
Now, if you want to compare, say, 7-up, sprite, sierra mist, and mountain dew...that could be a toughy.
Edit: As for the generic, I don't know. I've never had that brand of generic, nor any other, really, save maybe Shasta (is that considered generic?).

Pepsi has more sugar, Coke tastes more acidy, I can tell the difference esp. if I smell them first. (that's how I would tell which sodas were which when I was a waitress, the sniff test... nobody ever got the wrong drink)

I can - even in blind tests.
I can also tell the difference between Diet Coke, Coke Zero, Diet Pepsi and Pepsi Max.
I drink WAY too much Coke and Pepsi.
If only my taste was so finely attuned to a socially valueable topic like Wine.
They definitely taste different. I like them both, though.

Not only can I taste the difference, I can smell it.
I find pepsi-cola has a sharper more acidic taste, while coca-cola has a more mellow caramel flavour.
Which is better? Why, Coke obviously.

The Pepsi logo is so ugly it turns everything to ash in your mouth. Conclusive proof.
That said, I'd just be in it for the free pop. "hmmm, I'm not sure.....Refill, please."

Yes, I can. As others have pointed out, Pepsi is sweeter. Basically, if I like it, it's Coke. If I think it's too sweet, it's Pepsi.
I can definitely tell the difference. Coke has a sharp bitterness Pepsi lacks. Pepsi's flavour is both sweeter and thinner.
It is much harder to tell the difference if the drinks aren't cold.

While I have no stake in the Coca-cola vs. Pepsi war, as I like both...I definitely have an opinion on what to call them. Not soda. Not pop. Most definitely not soda pop. It's coke. No matter what brand or flavor, it's a coke. Period.
Okay, I'm kidding, but only kind of. Doesn't it rankle when people use one of the other terms? I'm sure plenty of people are bothered that I call them all coke. It's a regional thing, really. But still, I'm pretty sure I'm right. :D
There should be a poll on what you call them.

I bet my mother could, as she is allergic to Pepsi but not to Coke.
I think Pepsi seems to have more of a lingering taste. I sort of prefer Coke to Pepsi, but I don't particularly care for either.

Easily.
Pepsi is decidedly sweeter than coke.
The diet versions, though, are nearly identical.
Of course, since I spend most of my time in a realm of Coke monopoly (The Ohio State University), I drink primarily diet coke, if it is a cola that I am drinking.
I tend to favor coffee and it's derivatives for caffeine, and I drink beer, wine and fruity mixed drinks for flavor.

Nope. I can't tell the difference at all, between pepsi, coke, pepsi max, the diet versions etc. Probably because I rarely drink them, and don't care which one I'm drinking when I do.
I can tell the difference. Last year in my statistics class, some group did the same kind of test with pepsi and coke and I was able to differentiate between the two. I prefer coke over pepsi, since its stronger and I drink it before my morning classes to wake myself up.

"The product remained unavailable in the United States (PepsiCo's native market, and the largest consumer of carbonated soft drinks), where one of its principal ingredients had not yet been approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

Pepsi Max will also be released within the USA towards late 2007 but will be released as "Diet Pepsi Max" (The Formula is also said to be completely different)"
Huh. I didn't know that.

I have conducted my own blind taste tests and correctly ID'ed both Coke & Pepsi as well as RC cola.
edit: The difference between the colas is their citrus base. I'm unsure about RC, but I do know that Coke uses orange citrus as it's base, while Pepsi uses lemon.

That makes complete sense. Coke has more of a bite.
And as far as the diets go, Pepsi is sweeter. Diet Coke was never meant to taste like Regular Coke. It was supposed to be an alternative for people that didn't want a super sweet soft drink.*
*I learned that off I Love the 80's:D
Pepsi is too sweet. That gives it an advantage in the taste-testing contests it used to promote -- people preferred the one that had more sugar. That's fine when it's just one sip, but over the course of a can or a glass it gets cloying. Coke's more refined taste is better overall.

My significant other prefers Brio - and they're upfront about their unique flavour base: the full name (at least as it's sold here in Toronto) is Brio Chinotto, chinotto (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinotto) being a variety of bitter citrus fruit indigenous to parts of Italy.

I can and did with witnesses for a taste test between the two at the Abbotsford Air Show a few years back.
It helped that they spiked the Coke line a bit with extra carbonation.
An easy way to tell is to mix them with Jack Daniels. Coke mixes well, Pepsi doesn't. One has a harsher bite to it than the other, and that other tastes ever so lightly like dirt (when one decides to forego the issue of both of them often tasting like "malted battery acid").

I can tell the difference between the American version of Pepsi and Coke every time. One is vanilla based (Coke) and the other is a citrus base (Pepsi). Two distinct differences.
I definitely could, but our version might be different from the American version(s).
I have correctly identified both in a blind taste test before.
I quite honestly don't see how anyone couldn't tell the difference. It's not the flavor that is the clincher so much as the "texture"...Coke is far more carbonated.
That said, neither Coke nor Pepsi can hold a candle to Dr. Pepper. :D

Pepsi is sweeter, and coke has a slight carmal-like flavor to it. And the coca-cola aftertaste is FAR different from that of Pepsi.
To be honest, I dont really like either one.

You prefer cola to cola? Well I suppose there's no accounting for taste. Personally I prefer cola, and can't really understand why anyone would feel differently, but if you prefer cola, that's up to you.

Out of a bottle or a can I can tell the difference. Blindfold or back to back comparison or not. Fountain colas however, all taste the same. It has less to do with the brand than how much syrup they put in the machine.

I most definitely could tell the difference. There's something in Coke that isn't in Pepsi that makes me as sick as a dog. Coke is nasty, and I cannot drink it for biological reasons. Makes me happy that I have a legitimate reason to be an imposition and ask for the better-tasting alternative.

Pepsi to me seems sweeter and always seems flatter.
In a restaurant,I'll order a Coke and have the waitperson simply jot it down without comment. Then Itaste teh fountain drink in the plain glass they bring and it doesnt seem like Coke. I'll ask and they then tell me they only carry Pepsi products.
So-I'm sure I know the difference without looking, just by tatsing.
