One person got pissed off at an ad, so it's banned. I know it's a bit of non-news, but does anyone else think this person needs to grow a thicker skin?

Eh, we live in a world now where apparently you have the right to not be offended. We're heading down a bad road with this.

I think we could all use thicker skin. If it were thick enough, it may stop bullets, and then we could stop all the fighting, and get back to kissin' and huggin'.

Of course, with skin that thick, I'm not so sure I'd wanna kiss or hug any of you... Ah what the hell!

*SMOOCH*

Oh, and I haven't seen the ad, so I don't think it's fair to comment on that issue.

Hey you! There's smilies for that sort of thing! :p :fluffle:

Basically it's a street race, and at the end the winner gets congratulated by the other racers. It's not going much outside the box of what other adverts have done. Apparently, however, this advert is glorifying street racing and will encourage people to jump into their suped up Vauxhall Corsas and go die in an accident.

Well, I think any company is going to worry about their bottom line first, and pre-emptively pull anything that is going to cause them any sort of controversy. At least, controversy they think will have an adverse effect on their sales.

At least it wasn't a government issued censorship, it was the company deciding to do it themselves. It's just an ad. Creative folks will figure out some other way to take money from kid's grubby hands. (Or their parents wallets.)

This is a stretch for the people who were offended by the commercial, that was barely suggestive.

People don't need commercials to make them into road-rage proned jackasses who think it'll be a larf to soup up their crap-mobile with mufflers that muffle nothing and stereo that sounds like a friggin' concert on wheels. It comes naturally...

Plus, the commercials have nothing on the movies that actually promote that kind of asinine shit.

Found a site with the video on (http://www.xbox-scene.com/xbox1data/sep/EEZVyVyVVyWPrMvQQs.php).

Seriously, how can you be offended or worried that that's going to glamourise street racing? The person who complained is a fucking idiot.

Edit: Just read the news story quoted on that site. And here's a quote from the ASA:
The ASA said it had noted the on-screen text, but it considered that the text "reinforced the sense that the events were real, rather than fantasy, and were therefore capable of being copied".

They seriously think the words 'Dramatisation. Professional Stunt. Do not attempt' and 'Professional drivers. Closed course' "reinforced the sense that the events were real"? What the fuck?

They're morons masquerading as fucktards.

Hmmm... I could see a few stupid lads doing that thing with the masks, and the weaving, and the car-tipping and the PAIN! PAIN IN THE GLAYVING, when it all goes wrong.

I never saw what was wrong with it. It makes you wonder what little purpose in life some people have.

Jesus. Even this is going a bit far for the offendophiles. They got pissed off about those PSP commericials, which, although unoffensive, at least you could actually see what might be offensive about them. Why don't they go bitch about those allstate commericials with the car crashes?

I do recall a football movie from over a decade ago, where the players would lay down in the middle of the road and let the traffic drive by them as some form of thrill. I just figured it was a stupid movie. Turns out, some kids thought it would be cool, and got run over trying to do the same thing.

Now, I see that as natural selection at its best. However, street racing has been an issue in many cities, and I'm not surprised at least one person voiced a complaint about it. I don't necessarily think that it should have been pulled, but I see where people would get concerned.

There are plenty of mental midgets out there.

Reminds me of when I heard a kid broke his leg trying to duplicate a stunt from NYPD Blue... by jumping off a three story roof.

This is sad.

Political correctness will be the downfall of society. The meek shall inherit the earth, or whatever pathetic flavorless scraps of it are left anyway.

Has anyone noticed the recent change to the latest Reese peanut butter cup ad?

Their current slogan is 'Have you been to your Reese place today?'

Originaly the commercial aired as follows:

A white man stands in a bus eating a Reese Peanut butter cup.

While eating, the man fantasizes about dancing disco-style with a black woman and a white woman, both dressed in 60's era clothing.

the scene ends with a shot of the man and his thought bubble, and a black female passenger on the bus staring at him/it.

Apparently some prude complained, because now the current version goes like this:

A white man stands in a bus eating a Reese Peanut butter cup.

While eating, the man fantasizes about dancing disco-style with a white blonde woman and a white brunette woman, both dressed in 60's era clothing.

the scene ends with a shot of the man and his thought bubble, and a black female passenger on the bus staring at him/it.

Apparently it is no longer Politically Correct for white men to have fantasies involving black women. But fantasies concerning blondes and brunettes are perfectly fine.

*sigh*

People watch NYPD Blue?

I think I'd jump off a three story building too.

Hmph. If people are stupid enough to go off and do these kinds of idiotic stunts, especially after they are warned not to, I think they deserve whatever happens to them. Maybe they can serve as an example to other idiots to not do stupid stuff. :upyours:

And, hey, it's a nice way of weeding out the common-sensically unfit from the rest of society. :p

People might imitate what they see on comercials or video games? How many pet turtles were lost because of Mario? I can'tthink of any incident. The PC should be shot.

I can understand the PSP squirrel comercials. The squirrals are immitating the stereotypical African American teenager's way of life, which could offend black people. that was pretty obvious. Even VGCats made fun of the comercials' hidden, yet obvious racism. That's worth complaining about.

The world has too many people, which results in famines and wars and stuff like that. Let the morons kill themselves. The smart shall inherit the earth after the loud and stupid kill eachother. Think of it. No wars. No fights. No obnoxious people yelling into their cell phones in movie theatres. No idiots yelling into their cell phones while driving. 'Tard-free paradise.
