I just got this today:

Hello, My name is Charles De Villiers. I and my wife Sarah De Villiers
are into art design and sales. I found your details on the internet
while searching for trustworthy people across the United States and
Canada who are interested in a potentially lucrative partnership with
an international firm.

C&S Studio Pty is an artwork company here in South Africa and we are
currently expanding our operations in the online business community.
But because of various banking and legal restrictions, we are unable
to accept payment effectively from our online USA/Canadian customers.
As such, we are recruiting partners to conduct simple banking
transactions on our behalf.

The process is simple. If you are interested in becoming a US partner
of our company, you would sign and agreement that would make you an
official financial representative of our company, able to accept
invoice payments on our behalf. Instead of asking our American clients
who most times want to make payment via paypal which due to reasons
unknown to us, South African paypal account owners are not able to
receive payment. Some also prefer to send a check to us, which take
more than a month to clear, we'll have them work with our partners to
submit payments.

C&S Studio Pty, pays it's partners a 15% commission on every
transaction. In addition, we will take care of any incremental tax
liability you incur, depending on which state you are in. And of
course, depending on how good business is, your monthly commissions
could be as high as $3000 United States dollars per month.

If you are interested in working with us, (and of course, you must be
a honest person) or if you want more information, you can contact us
directly at our personal email address: csstudiopty@mail2artist.com or
csstudiopty@yahoo.com or csstudiopty@myway.com . We'd need your full
name, mailing address and contact telephone numbers so I can send you
the contract and other paperwork necessary to get started.

NOTE: If you have a paypal account, please do reply immeidately as
this is very necessary due to the fact that most of our clients wish
to pay using this method.

We look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks.

Now, this is a considerable improvement over the usual 411 scam. I can only assume that increased competition in the scamming market has forced the industry to focus on the 'quality added' aspect of their product.

Compare this to the highly regulated mortgage mortgage, where despite government oversight, product quality has declined significantly over the same time period.

If this isn't proof that deregulated markets police themselves, I don't know what is.

To hell with a finance degree, I'm going to Africa to get in on the 419 scam market! That field is booming over there.

I agree. It's really looking better than continuing to study Investments right now.

The English is a hell of a lot better than the ones I usually get from Prince Mukebaci.

Though they still seem to be using 15" CRTs with manual newline creation.

I read a little while back you were 19. Unbelievable!

Anywho, while you're in Africa, can you get these two to do The Argument Sketch?

Probably a plain-text email (that is to say, the proper sort) wrapping after something like 74 columns.

Can you forward them my details too? I'm keen to hop on board this money train.

At most it can be proof that in some instances markets can police themselves. No one is saying that such anomalies never happen. It is just that the history of lax market regulation (no market can be completely unregulated. markets as we know them exist only within particular legal frameworks) shows that such instances are just that- anomalies. And the California energy debacle alone trumps a million such anomalies.

Yes, I am so dogmatic that I am not even willing admit that internet scams are improved by neolibiral market reforms:D
