I like to experiment with my food sometimes.

I mean, there are only so many ways to prepare a bagel.

So I added a little twist to it. I had a lime on hand from a pie I had made earlier. I used a tiny bit of lime juice on my buttered poppy-seed bagel to see what kind of taste I could discover. My taste buds sure got a good awakening!

What strange concoctions have you experimented with in your weak moments?

I have to admit, I'm not much into cooking, let alone experimental cooking.

I do recall, at one time, I was cooking Kraft Dinner (macaroni and cheese for you uncultured types) ,and realized half way through, that I had no milk to add for the cheese sauce. So, instead of adding water, like some sane person might do, my eyes stumbled upon a bottle of maple syrup.

Yeah.

It was about as gross as you think it might be.

These might not be all that new thinking or strange, but if you want something that will make your tastebuds orgrasm, try the following pasta salade(this came from experimenting):

Creamy curry and chicken pasta salad!

Its easy - you need:

2 chicken breast fillets
pasta
sour cream
curry
paprika
iceberg salade
onions

You start with the prep work. Chop the onions, salad and chicken into small pieces.

Boil pasta

Turn the chicken in a little curry and paprika - and then throw it onto the frying pan.

In the mean time, put lots of curry, a little paprika into the sourcream, along with the chopped onions. Mix it well.

Once the pasta is done, pour it into a large bowl, pour the sourcream dressing onto it, and turn the two together. Add the chicken when its done.

Turn it all together with the iceberg salade

MMMMMMMMM Yummy - now if you wanna give your taste buds a little extra kick, fry some bacon slices to put ontop, not only does it look good, but damn does it taste good

Once I got an hamburger and fried it, baked it and warmed it at the toaster, one after another, just to see how it tasted after.

It tasted like ashes.

Bacon fried in Newcastle Brown Ale. Though that wasn't one of my weaker moments. That was 'Crap, I've spilled my beer in the frying pan and I'm certainly not wasting two rashers of bacon'. It was very good though, I'd heartily reccommend it.

Also, vanilla Mullerice cold on white bread or hot on toast. Lovely.

Thinking that bananas and chicken would be a fantastic combination, I ordered such a dish at a resturant once.
It was delicious.
Later, inspired and bored, I put mashed bananas into sliced chicken breasts and baked them.
The result was nearly vomit inducing.

I discovered cardamom (sp) and corriander recently.

I had a lovely beer with corriander. I went to the store to get some to cook with, got cardamom by mistake.

Two great spice discoveries for the price of one!

I made omelets for dinner, only I forgot to hit the farmer's market today, so I just threw in whatever veggies I had in the fridge, which was an avocado (actually that's a fruit) and some pico de gallo and some ham.......it was sooo good.

I don't know if that's way out of the ordinary, but it was def. new for us.

I tried to make a crepe layer cake with banana custard. The cake came out crap, but the left over banana custard made it all worth it. Soooooo good. Even my daughter ate it. And all she eats is cheese.

Also, I read a recipe for a Real World rendition of a Terry Pratchett Discworld dessert. The fantasy version is a magical aphrodisiac. The real version is just a tasty chocolate bread-pudding with white chocolate rum sauce. I substituted yohimbe root powder for the cocoa and it didn't taste quite as good, but it approximated the fantasy incarnation.

General rule of thumb is that fruit can make a nice chutney/salsa for fried meats. It tends not to make a good base for gravy roasts. Gravies absorb the flavor of the meat, which can make most fruits a bit gross. If the fruit is prepared on the side it creates a nice accent, like applesauce with pork chops, or ketchup on a hamburger. But hardly anyone will prepare roast pork with apple slices all over it.

Of course, general rules all have their exceptions. Citrus juice is a great addition to stir-frying anything, and there's a reason that so many people think that tomatoes are vegetables.

If you're a stoned pregnant smoker perhaps. But then again, pregnant stoners tend not to be too hard to surprise.

Strawberry Ice cream + Tabasco Sauce, invented in a Pakistani restaurant, no less. Alternatively, every drink you can lay your hands in in a Pakistani restaurant, the remains of everybody's meals, and Tabasco sauce.

Deep-fried mars bars are a brilliant invention (not of mine - Australian).

On a personal note:

My mother was studying ancient history when I was quite small (bout 7-8). I read that the Greek gods used to eat cheese and honey. So, I, convinced that this amazing concoction would turn me into a god, made a cheese and honey sandwich. Naturally, it didn't have the effect I intended, but it was a surprisingly delicious combination.
