I took the test a few different ways. First, off the cuff speed with low comprehension netted me high 1100s, while a controlled comprehension was the score I posted, and a slower, search for details read gave me 900s.
I've never tried speed reading.

***You read 144 words in 0.28 minutes. Your reading speed is 514 words per minute!***
Yeah, I'm the same way too. I get into a groove where I pretty much am just scanning the pages almost straight down, with soft focus so I take in the words. I've been able to pass tests based on books I read in college that way.
Though, funny thing is- I can do that with novels, and remember everything about them- but I can't with text books. I slow down something fierce when reading text books. I've tried speed reading those and I just fail. LoL
Probably has to do with the type of writing, and the brain being able to fill in gaps without realizing that's what it's doing!

No, you either have it or you don't.
I've heard you can learn, that there isn't true photographic memory... just tricks to remember. Though I tend to have a form of photographic memory when it comes to hearing things... I can quote back entire conversations I have with people- sometimes going back years, and it's like I hear it as I say it. Shit with remembering what's in a room- or what I see at times... But the hearing form takes no effort at all with me, no tricks-
So I take it back, you're probably right! But there are tricks to get you to near photographic memory!

313 w/m at normal reading speed (I actually thought I'd be slower than that), but twice that when skimming. I do take it in quite well when skimming, but it requires effort; I read to enjoy and relax, there's no rush.

The real question is though, can you comprehend what you read? I can read very fast, but if you ask me what I just read, I wouldn't be able to remember it. I find that i inevitably save more time if I read slower because I don't need to go back and reread.

Depends on the reading material as well.
A math textbook? Not so fast. A sci-fi novel? Thousands of wpm, with over 80% comprehension on the first pass. A treatise on theology? Slow.
And if you can read and comprehend quickly, reading slowly can often induce boredom, which makes you stop reading.

Certainly not my normal reading speed. I'd estimate I read about 20% slower than that when reading a moderately well-written fiction book or a non-fiction book on a subject I understand, and about 50% slower when reading a non-fiction book on a subject that's new to me.

I'd read it more slowly than that if I cared what it said, or wanted to do good recall on it. I could read it much faster, but there'd be no real recall - so there's no point.
The advantage of my 'stock' reading speed is that I remember what I read 'geographically'... I can jump straight back to passages, or locate information quickly that I only saw fleetingly.

That was a pretty natural, relaxed reading speed for me. And even that's quicker than most people I know. It's so annoying in school English lesons and you have to share a book with the person sitting next to you. They're usually so damn slow. What's particularly annoying is if they need to move a ruler across the page on the lines they're reading to keep their place, I can never put up with that.
