Hey I don't know if anybody out there, especially NS New Yorkers, have gotten out to see the show but it's running through the 15th of April. It's pretty awesome with a lot of cool exhibits and concept cars and the usual awesomity of all things awesome. Check it out, especially the taxi exhibit. I felt there were more concepts last year, over this year but that's alright because they still had some awesome debut's and what not.
PS: I am not a promoter for the show or anything so no, I'm not ad spamming :).

Porsche brings out the evil (http://www.theforsakenoutlaw.com/Graphics/Photogallery/NY%20Auto%20Show%202007/NYAutoShow2007-143.jpg) in you, from looking at the passenger...
Half those cars are absolutely hideous. I think automakers are stuck in the 80's, they still seem to think that building the ugliest thing possible will make it cool because it is so tacky.
Would it kill them to design something that looks good and is affordable by mere mortals?

I have to say many of the cars of today are not impressive to me. For one things I hate imports. I'm a Chevy man day-in and day-out but one import did grab my attention, the Hyundai Tiburon. I really like the way it looks and the car itself but I wouldn't pass it up for the Cobalt SS Supercharged that I want so badly...

You don't like this gorgeous (http://www.theforsakenoutlaw.com/Graphics/Photogallery/NY%20Auto%20Show%202007/NYAutoShow2007-089.jpg) beast?
damn that thing is ugly...

You couldn't pay me to take a Colbalt. I have a Cavalier, and it is the most god awful vehicle I have ever had the horror of driving. I do not know how the fuckers are legal, I mean it is just repair after fucking repair with that thing.
Looking at what they did in the 60's and 70's (and to a lesser extent the early-mid 80's) you just wonder where did they go wrong?
I used to be a Chevy man myself, but after owning one I do not see myself buying a Chevy made this side of 72.
Any interesting new concepts?
Or are they all reserved for Tokyo, Paris and Geneva?

As far as I know that Supra hasn't been actually seen yet, so that'd be new.
And of course, fugly.

They're saving the new Skyline for L.A. but the SL-2000 was debuted there and a few others. I noticed that the number of "flex fuel" cars since last year went down significantly. I guess we know who won that debate.

My '89 Ford Taurus SHO had more horsepower, comfort, luxury, and torque than your dream '07 Cobalt SS. :p
Only thing is it weighed more... I could've changed that, though.

Wait, people actually want a Cobalt? I thought that was something you just sort of settled on, like, "I wanted a car, but I got a Cobalt...I guess it'll have to do..."
Weird.

Man, I would so drive that if it were black. It looks vaguely like a stealth fighter.

I think if you drive a black one of those you're obligated to fight crime or cause it, one of the two.
I had read initially that it was supposed to be a hybrid sports car, but then so was the new NSX and I don't think either panned out, but Lexus now has a 400+ hp hybrid. I don't know so much about that, it gets the same gas mileage as everything else but just goes faster? Is that really helping? On the other hand, the gear head in me who has been really trying to find ways to work with the hippie in me thinks it's cool...

I drove the Taurus SHO before it was released at the Pocono Raceway-that was thrill. Loads of power, handled great and very comfortable on top of everything.

Didn't you see South Park? Hybrids are only good for one thing, and that's polluting the atmosphere with smug.
Anyways, the NY motor show is a silly attempt by US carmakers to pretend they're not in massive shit by showing us shiny things that would make them losses if they actually built them.

Depends on what those things are but American car manufacturers for all their faults do have some good things going for them.

Maybe you dont know about all the people that pay $25.00 or more to get in, take home a bagful of promotional stuff along with pictures of outrageous concept cars.
Then go to a dealer and buy a normal car.
I worked that show two years in a row and sold cars in the following months asa result.
Its better than advertising.

No one thought they would survive the gas crisis in the 70s.
But-they did. They will adapt and survive.
They need a crisis to change their ways.
I wouldnt want to be working for any of those companies til after the shakeups, down sizing, layoffs and restructuring is over, but they will recover.

They need to stop pretending that building efficient, reliable clean cars will destroy them while Toyota and Honda sales soar and SUV sales drop. I mean, c'mon, they can't even be kidding themselves at this point...

Like I said, they need a crisis to improve. And its likely they'll get one.
They arent going to keep getting pounded by the Japanese/Korean car makers until they go out of business.

You know what the crazy thing is?
They're building exactly the right sort of cars. The ones which could save them. And they sell very well, and good profit is made on them.
For some reason, though, they refuse to sell those cars in the US.
Developing cars for the US market separately from the European market is a ridiculous waste of money when the cars they're building for Europe could save them in the US.
I can't wait to go. I've gone every single year since 2001. I love cars. There are so many I'm looking forward too. :)

You're probably right. Maybe they think the American consumer isnt ready for that type of car? Who knows.
I'm ready for a more economical, cleaner burning car. I dont want to sacrafice safety or have to drive a sub-compact though.
I also dont want to pay $30,000.00 for a car I can almost pick up.

Maserati GranTurismo FTW.

Any modern European car (and I'm including models made by American manufacturers for mainly the European market) are very, very safe cars these days. There are stringent safety regulations put in place by both the EU and national governments, and a cars performance in the Euro NCAP crash testing scheme plays a prominent part in advertising and consumer purchasing.
Don't want to go sub-compact? Fine, there's plenty of choice (assuming compact is what I think it is).

Well the Grand Marquis is still the same as it's been since what, 1982? LOL! My friend Dave had a great quote about that car. "You know they don't need to do anything to it so they tell the new guy in the shop that he can tinker with the car for the next few years just for the hell of it so he slaps on a new grill, a new steering wheel, and that's it." Hehe it was funny...

It is amazing how little things changed for them. They've been trying to change that unchanging image recently, though.
I saw a pretty good rating on one of their sedans in Consumer Reports. I think it was the Montego. I presume it was named after Montego Bay, Jamaica, but I'm not really sure as I generally don't follow the auto scene closely anymore.

I don't know why they would want to change the Grand Marquis, it's worked for them for how long now :)? They've had to have sold god knows how many of them by now.
Grand Marquis sales have dropped dramatically in recent years.
