What is your favorite state?

Out of all of them, which state do you like the best and why?
I personally would have to go for california as my favorite, because of the great weather, great scenery, and nice sense of community there.

For me it all depends on what I want to do. I love Florida for the weather, loved California (the Bay Area specifically) for what you mentioned, and love Utah for hiking, though I wouldn't live there on a bet.

Kansas is pretty nice, I agree. You wouldn't think so if you've never been there, but it grows on you, and when the weather's nice, it's as good a place to be as anywhere. It deserves a better reputation, no doubt.

Pennsylvania's a bitch to drive through.. the interstates were torn up in spots most of last year, it rains basically every time I cross the border into the state, and it's mountainous over much of the state.. but it seems a pretty regular place to live, even if passing through isn't fun.

You know, I've been thinking. If we could peacefully secede, we could be quite well off. We have a large tourism sector, the farming sector would be better off due to us being able to sell our Corn at higher prices, which is in high demand due to Ethanol, not only that but have a great deal of the Ethanol plants in the country, a large population, and we receive less money from the federal government than we actually pay them. :/

Why don't we secede again?

Why (in no particular order):

1. Other than living in New York the first 3 years of life and Minnesota the last 5, it's where I'm from, so I'm biased.
2. Relatively no natural distasters or extreme climates. No hurricanes, major flooding, earthquakes, volcanos, mudslides, forest fires, and only a small amount of tornados. No desert, no tundra.
3. The Big Three car companies!
4. Great nature areas (i.e. The Great Lakes, sand dunes, basically most of the Upper Penninsula, and some of the lower, lots of wildlife, forest, and water).
5. Lots to do, either nature (you pick it), or city living (ditto).
6. Decent sports teams: Pistons, Red Wings, Tigers... erm, yeah, I won't mention the last one.
7. A decent mixture of different types of people.
8. Depending on where one lives, fairly quick to get to larger cities (i.e. Windsor, Detroit, Grand Rapids, Chicago, Toledo, etc.)
9. The ghetto... *coughs* double "erm, yeah"
10. Nice people.

To answer the OP's question, Michigan is my favorite state in the world mainly because it's home. I've lived away from Michigan for 5 of the last 7 years and I've never found an American state that I like remotely as much. France feels more like home to me after 2 months than Colorado did after I'd lived there for 6 months. Perhaps that's because Colorado is similar but just different enough to really bother me, where France is different enough that I accept them as differences.

My least favorite state is the French state. It takes those bastards forever to do anything.

Out of all of them, which state do you like the best and why?
I personally would have to go for california as my favorite, because of the great weather, great scenery, and nice sense of community there.

(Seeing as I am a n00b in this forum, I cannot, as a rule, post a thread without grammatical errors, comma splices, mispellings and gun smileys should be here too. :mp5: :sniper: :gundge: )

Massachusetts. I live there. We're all a bunch of damn yankees.

Pennsylvania without a doubt, period

Hello fellow Philadelphian! Good to see another person who lives in Philly!

I vote Pennsylvania, and this is not just because I currently live in Pennsylvania. I've been in many places. I love the climate of Southern States, dislike the culture. I like to tranquility of the West, dislike the atmosphere. I like the history of New England, dislike the weather for the most part. Pennsylvania seems to be the best of all worlds with the diversity (Philly), the wealth (Montegomery county), the history (Philly), food, weather. I mean, if you like it warm, go to Philly area (it's realtively warmish all year around....although winters still can get pretty cold), if you like it cold, go to the Poconos. It's kind of a win win state. Oh, and we have the cheesesteak!

Anyone of these states:

a(+) |n> = sqrt(n+1) |(n+1)>

a |n> = sqrt(n) |(n-1)>

|n> = (1/sqrt(n!)) (a(+)^n) |0>

:D

If not available, I'd have Bern.

probably nevada. not for anything that's there so much as for so many of the things that arn't. and i'm not talking about anything south of tonopah either.

there are parts of california i like a lot too; alpine, sierra, and nevada counties especialy, also lassin north of there. i forget the county up arround alturas.

montanas also come to mind, though i've never lived there. abscence of ubc in most places, as in many parts of nevada, but also trees which in nevada are somewhat scarce. (there ARE 'forested' belts in certain elevation ranges in the basin and range area, the just constitute a rather small portion of the whole).

there are too many things i don't like about much of california, particularly the more populated portions to choose it as a whole. and for what it's worth, yes i do live there.

alaska apeals to me, except for its still being a part of the u.s.

states of other nations if i may be permitted, b.c. canada! also yukon and mckenzie. the north end of west bangal province in india is interesting to me for the area between jalpaguri and darjiling and the dhr narrow gauge railway.

i don't know the cantons in switzerland all that well but there are some that interest me. as does much of the nation of nepal and most of japan, in all of them, the cooler climate places, places that get snow, have trains, a few other details like that.

(there's even a bit of arazona that is high country and gets a LOT of snow that is more or less interesting to me. but nevada, the 'outback' of nevada, i have never lived anyplace before or since, that i felt free er then the brief period during which i lived there).

The state of Intoxication's alway's good.

as with raygun's praise of greed, i've always wondered what the 'h' it was supposed to be good FOR?

sorry, enjoy if you really think you actually do, but i can't see as it's ever gratified a damd thing for me.

now come to think of it, there is a kind of state of translike meditation in which i feel free from the constant state of anxiety that haunts me the rest of the time other then in my dreams.

it's never been stimulated in me by consuming any substance though.

Have you been to Texas? It's a pretty state, especially in the West. :)

Which pretty much begs the question of whether you have been to any other state, or have any idea what makes a place aesthetically pleasing. I say this given the fact that Texas is the anal sphincter of the United States.

I am partial to Washington, given I grew up there. If I had to choose a state unemotionally, I would have to say Montana, although Colorado and Alaska (in summer) are right up there as well, but come up short due to the people in Montana.

I would also go with the Bose-Einstein Condensate.

I typically think of Cities.

I.E. I'm from Chicago, I've never once said I'm from Illinois. After that I lived in St. Louis. Now I live in Austin. I don't live in Texas, I live in Austin. The rest of the state, uh, sucks.

Anyhoo, my favorite states are Illinois, Ohio, Minnesota and Arizona.

I'm exactly the opposite, although I think it's largely because I never lived in a city (in the US) with a population over 400.000. I've always considered myself a Michigander (even when I lived in Colorado), with the city I lived in being of very little importance.

...you're kidding right? Seriously, ADELAIDE??? :p

Adelaide is the capital city. South Australia is the statoid.

EDIT: Just looked at your location. Silly me.

It is dull. That's why I like it. Most people call it boring. But I don't leave the house much and when I do it's to go for a walk or to go to university. I usually like peace when I'm walking and to get to university on time/early with no interruptions. For what I need it for. This city is great.

We have a more extensive tram system :p .

your state and my state are far better than all of the American states

Mining sector FTW?

well part of it for chicagoans is the fact that when it comes to lesser illinois, we don't like them and they don't like us.
