Most Frustrating Injury You've Ever had

What was the most frustrating injury you've ever had?

I've been diagnosed with tendonitis in the wrist (fairly bad, too), and I'm supposed to keep my hand in a wrist brace when I'm not icing my wrist. I have to say it totally sucks. I'm an avid guitarist and violist, and I'm not allowed to touch my instruments at all. I also have to type one-handed*, to let my hand rest (although that isn't from the doctor, that's from my parents, who are paranoid). I'm typing about a quarter as fast as usual.

* Not like that, you pervert.

Ouch, poor you :(

I've never had a major injury, though I managed to pull a muscle around my hip on a night hike that just kept recurring. I couldn't walk properly with it. On a night hike, that ain't good.

A stubbed toe once which was, quite literally, still aching seven months later.
I didn't see the doctor about it even once, and even to this day I wonder whether I should have done.

So how long did it take for you to type up what you just did?

I have been a victim of one-handed-typedness myself, and it was a nightmare...

About 3 minutes, with a bit of revision in there. Without this damn brace, I could type it all in less than a minute. For refference, this took me over a minute to type.

I remember about 6 years ago I was skating down a steep hill and I ended up falling and skidding on the street. It tore off all of the skin and part of the flesh on my left knee. My knee would hurt whenever I walked for about 3 years. My knee is fine now, but my skin didn't properly grow back, so now my part of the skin on my left knee looks a bit funky.

I had a very bad ingrown toenail a few months ago-- it recently got better though :).

Though when I was 11 I fell off my scooter and tore up my knee pretty badly... had a hard time walking for a couple months... still have a scar though it's not very visible now. :)

When I was in junior high, I fell down the stairs and tore the living shit out of my ankle. I looked like someone had cut a grapefruit in half and shoved it under the skin. Never healed right, it still gives me hell now, and I'm almost 30.

Recently, I sprained my hip with underlying bursitis. The ligament has mostly healed now, so I'm stuck with this toothache like pain, deep in my left hip joint. The doc gave me voltaren, an anti-inflammatory, but it turns out I'm allergic. It made my throat swell up, which is not much fun. And I can't get ahold of my doc, so I had to quit taking it without any kind of replacement until Monday. Pain = teh 5ux0r.

Not really an injury, but the "100 day cough" was a pain in the ass (or neck more appropriately). Also, once I jumped off a really high structure in a play park, landed on my feet then bounced onto my back. My back hurt whenever I walked, then for a few weeks whenever I ran.
Another time my thumb got shut in the hinges of one of those stupidly overpowered spring doors. My thumb nail turned black and dropped off, and I accidently squished the soft one underneath - I had a dent in my tumbnail for a long time.
Spraining both ankles was bad too.

My husband had that. He could not stop coughing, even at night, and the only reason I didn't stab him in the spleen was that I knew he wasn't doing it on purpose. I came quite close to banishing him to the couch, tho.

I shattered my right leg and fractured the left during the state championship soccer game of my league when I was twelve. It ended any and all soccer ambitions I might have held, as I was the star player. Luckily, my team managed to be victorious.

It was quite frustrating as I found myself going around in a wheelchair for at least four weeks before my left leg healed enough to allow for cruch walking. School was difficult indeed, as was everything else in my life, especially since my bedroom was on the second floor of our house and as such I was forced to sleep downstairs on a couch for some time.

My ankle does the same thing. I've discovered that it's a nasty cycle: It hurts, which makes the muscles tense up, which makes it hurt more... It seems counterintuitive, but heat, especially moist heat, helps me a lot. Makes everything loosen up. Well, that, and getting the fuck off the damn thing, of course.

Nope. I was pissed off about something, and went to throw my clothes into the hamper. I misjudged, and caught my fingertip. It bent all the way back to my wrist, hurt like hell, and went black and blue immediately. I thought it was broken, but it was just a bad sprain.

Does shortness count as an injury?

Being 5'10 was one of the most devestating experiences of my life.

I had hopes of being signed by a pro soccer club as a goalkeeper. I had the talent. I didn't have the height.

Now I look back and know even if I was 6'5 I wouldn't got through because 95% of everyone in the youth system gets filtered out but at the time it was crushing.

Seems kind of minor compared to your actual injuries. I've only got an ingrowing toenail to compete.

Most frustrating? Hands-down, no question, my stupid vocal nodes.

For those of you who don't know what vocal nodes are, they're essentially calluses on one's vocal cords, which make singing anywhere from painful to impossible until they go away. I acquired them back when I was actually making a reasonably significant portion of my living singing and was applying for MFA programs. Both of those had to be put on indefinite hold while I waited and waited for those damn stupid nodes to fade out of existence. At this point, they've healed enough for me at least to be able to sing again, but over a year and a half of full vocal rest has left my voice a poor shadow of what it once was, so I'll now have to spend another year or more with a voice teacher slowly relearning how to do all the things I once could without aggravating my vocal cords into re-forming nodes. "Frustrating" doesn't even begin to cover it.

Broke my thumb back in elementary school. Tore the ligaments all to hell. One bone broke into eight or so pieces (95% of the mass was in the one piece). The doctor said I'd be lucky not to be left handed. Which I wasn't for the longest time, but I have switched over recently.

Most frustrating injury for me would have been a few years back.
I went down to the South Island to go snowboarding. Unfortunately, it wasn't much of a season and the snow was little more than ice. I fell backward (as I often do due to my total lack of coordination) and instinctively outstretched my hand to protect myself.
bad move.
my thumb hurt painfully. I thought I'd bruised it, but after more than a week of the pain not going away I finally went to see the quack, who arranged x-rays and found I'd gotten a minute hairline fracture in the thumb metacarpal.
what made this most frustrating was that any pressure onto my palm caused immense pain. Which meant I couldn't do any benchpress.
I was training for the Northland bench champs. Week before my fall, I'd benched 180kgs (400lbs). Week after (and for the next 8 weeks), I couldn't even do the bar (which weighs 40 pounds). pain was just too much.
suffice to say, I didn't enter the comp.

You may well have broken your toe...but no matter your doctor, they would have told you to buy some Aspirin and go home. They can't put a cast on a toe.

Worst injuries for me...

...broke my left arm when I was 5. I was dared to jump out of a treehouse, and I did. I was fine the first time...somewhere around the 20th time I fell and broke my arm. :p

...fell off my bike at age 7 and gashed up my knee really bad. No joint damage, but lots of blood!

...cracked a couple of ribs slipping on some ice sometime in high school. Came down right on the edge of the curb into my ribs on my right side. That one was pretty damn annoying.

...broke my left ankle a couple of years ago playing football.

Those are the big ones.
