Elementary School and Haircuts

I'm on the way out the door right now, so I won't be around to moniter this or keep it alive, but just as I was about to go out the door a friend mentioned this, and now I have to know.
When we where in elementary school, or whatever your country calls the first 6 years of schooling, it was a thing to make fun of kids who had just got a haircut.
Now, it never really made sense to either of us (but it did result in me ending up not getting haircuts, but that's really an excuse to have long hair...I digress...)
Now he tells me that he hasn't found out that no one else experienced that, that it was just something that happened in Folsom where we grew up (not in the prison).
So we needed a larger sample size to find out how true this is.
Did you or your classmates make fun of kids who had just gotten a haircut?
Is there anything similarly silly that kids made fun of when you were such?

actually having one stage for 8 years is rather uncommon on this planet.

I mis-spoke. First six years are elementary. My mistake.

Getting a haircut was about the worst thing that could happen to a boy where I went to school until about 7th or 8th grade, especially if you got scalped. Buzz cuts were an especial layer of hell, since the accusation that you'd gotten it because you had lice was always included.

I dont recall kids getting teased for getting a haircut. However it was true for the ones that did not.

not that i remember, although there tended to be various fad haircuts that went around my school so basically you got ostracised if you didn't have your haircut cut in whatever style it was. one particular fad i remember was known as an 'undercut', my mum wouldn't let me get one and i'm quite glad now looking at old school photos, fucking stupid looking it was.
i do remember being made fun of for the colour of my hair though.

I totally remember that. Maybe that was what made me lean towards long hair.
Also, good to know we weren't totally alone in this, yay!
Yeah, it was a thing at my primary school. But I have terrible hair that hates me proportionately to the amount of time I spend on it, so the haircut jibes lasted until late high school for me. So I got into the habit of not cutting it. :)

Redhead I'm guessing? Could you include a picture of an 'undercut'? The google search is too broad for me.
We had 'rat tails' in school, nothing said 'trashy little brat' like a rat tail.
...which, of course, I totally had...

i was at my 'elementary' school for 9 years, i think, 4-13, that's nine right? and, no, i didn't get kept back any years.

When I came to North Carolina rat tails were nearly extinct-- only two kids had them. But feh.
Now everyone's getting layers and getting their hair cut short and choppified... except the guys, who either have buzz cuts, spiky hair, or "sk8r hair".

i don't have a scanner on this computer i'm afraid. basically the hair on top was left medium long so it hung down to the ears and usually parted in the centre, but the hair at the back and sides up to about an inch or so above the ears was buzz cut really short, like a number2 or 3.
i'll have a look see if i can find some old school photos on the interent, there's bound to be something someone's uploaded.
rat tail was another one at mine too, although shortlived cuz people got suspended for having them.

I know the look. In extreme cases, the top hair is long enough to be pulled back in a pony tail, but the underside is shaved. It's one of the dumber looks out there, I think.

Yeah, we had that too, I guess. It wasn't based on the haircut in question looking silly, it was simply because everybody simply knew that coming to school the first day after getting one's hair cut was kinda awkward because everybody could see you had something done and you felt all self-conscious.
Not that different from when you're grown up, really. :p
I don't really need, want, or care to get a haircut. I would often get mistaken for a girl while anywhere public, which prompted me to stay inside and get on the computer. Alas, I found NSG...

I wouldn't know about that last part, the last adult hair cut I got was when I was 21, which was many many years ago...

I still make fun of kids for haircuts. We need haircuts anyway, and people end up looking idiotic right after a regulation-conforming haircut.

Sure was. Especially the kids who'd get their hair cut (usually pretty badly) by their own mothers - or whose fathers wanted 'em to have brush-cuts.
It was a source of constant amusement.

I remember that too - yes, it did look a bit daft.

Heh, I remember them. I also remember that I thought they looked completely stupid, and told my best friend that when he got one. Needless to say, we didn't stay best friends for long after that...
Though I stand by that, and, eventually (about 7-8 years later) he came round to the conclusion that in all the photos he had of himself aged 9, his hair looked ridiculous.
I don't think I ever had the piss taken out of me after having a haircut, though. Nor do I remember taking the piss out of anyone just for having a haircut - it had to look stupid, or, at the very least, odd.

People picked on me cause I had curly hair.
Now, that my hair's straight... Curly is the in thing... One step ahead...But two steps back.
I don't really remember if kids were picked on for getting haricuts, but I do know that everyone would point and laugh at you if you accidentally called the teacher mom.

We would always make comments like "You've had your ears lowered.", or "Did you have a fight with a lawnmower?".

I sometimes got "Have you been playing with a balloon?"
But come to think of it, that wasn't dependent on me getting a haircut... :P

I used to get picked on after my Dad had done it. Usually because it looked like I'd had a fight with a lawnmower, and lost.

The lawnmower fight seems to be a common accusation. I have to admit that it is the one I remember the most as well.

Only if it was a particularly bad haircut.
Oddly enough, though, I don't remember ever being mocked for my haircut, despite the fact that it was unquestionably awful for most of my childhood. (My mother insisting on cutting my hair herself, with no input from me as to what I might like, which inevitably meant I had ridiculous-looking, exceedingly crooked bangs.) Perhaps my little classmates felt that, given all the other things they already mocked me for, laughing at my stupid bangs might be overkill. :p

The "high and tight" (very short flattop with skin on the sides) appears to be extremely popular among boys in elementary school around here - either that, or all of the parents are involved in a haircut conspiracy.
The boys appear to like it. I've heard that long haired boys are getting teased now.
Maybe it's "whoever is different" gets the teasing - not simply someone with a haircut.

my mom used to do that to me too......except she kept trying to "even them up" which meant they got shorter and shorter until they were like an inch long.....I blame her for all the teasing.
my husband's mother cut my daughter's bangs once without permission....oh,boy, that was a fight. I think there should be a law against it! (not really) I feel bad for my kid though, it's uneven, and parted wrong, and horrible......she cut into the sides of her hair, so it's almost mullet like. I hate that, and there isn't much we can do about it.
I told her like 40 times "don't cut their hair", but she doesn't listen. If they want a hair cut, I will take them for one, from a professional.....I don't like them having to live with crappy hair [/rant]
