Shut up! I stupidly erased "destroyed" right before posting, and smartly saved it in the OP. Or not.. :(

No, ut it would be nice if there were more posts.

Details, please. What exactly is our current status? Define our immortality. What resources are available to us? What can we accomplish?
Look, I don't have a problem with these speculative ideas, but for water's sake, people, could we at least think it through and elaborate?
You'd all be invited to my space warming party... Bring your own goon bag but...

It was a nice day in June when all hell had broke loose with the majority of powerful countries. They fought until they decided to nuke their enemies, but not knowing that the enemy had decided to do the same. All the countries with nuclear bombs had blown the world up at exactly the same time.
A week later, while there were still some survivors, a huge motherfucking asteroid hit the earth. This impact blew the earth to smithereens.
Hows that?
The world's gone, I can apparantly survive in the dangers (putting it oh so lightly) of space, and death is but an amusing quandery never to be experienced save through my will? I suppose I'd drift off and hope that pain has also left my ability to experience. 'Cause drifting inevitably leads into an atmosphere being entered, something getting hit, burned, stretched to the point of assumed nonexistence or what have you.
Unless, of course, I have a technology at my disposal that makes the whole ordeal that much more enjoyable. Then I'd spend the next uncountable amount of years growing an awesome beard and hoping I don't run out of fuel. Or substenance. Or the voices. One does, after all, need to talk to something.

Not good enough, damn it, not good enough! [/Picard]
Seriously, I don't have enough detail. Am I floating in space? Can I still feel how cold it is? Am I able to simply ignore the sensations or, despite my immortality, am I forced to experience them nonetheless? Do I have any resources at my disposal at all, or am I just floating by myself with nothing nearby?
Well, ideally I'm not going to be on Earth at this point, so I guess I'd dispatch some reconstruction bots from wherever I'm living to stabilize the situation and begin building a new world using the information I've collected over the years. I suppose I could also clone some new organisms from DNA and gradually rebuild the ecosystem. It would take a while, but at least this time there would be someone there to make sure we don't screw up again.
The Earth would be too valuable to me for me to allow it to die...it's the home of mankind, and the place where we started on this path in the first place. And if I can't do that, I'll just float my way towards the nearest galaxy and wait until someone picks me up.

Divide by zero.
OH SH-
Divide by zero.

You can divide by zero. What you get just isn't fun to do math with.
Divide by zero.

Would you stop that? Seriously, stop it. It was funny at first but now it's just annoying.
Anyway, I do agree with you...I'd certainly try to rebuild Earth if possible. I love this planet...it might be a bit foolish since it was simply where I and my species were both born, but still, I love it and I do not wish to lose it whatsoever.

Definitely. Losing Earth would mean forgetting where we came from, and that's not a good thing since it means we will lose our sense of identity and our common history.

Well, if this takes place by the time I've got an indefinite lifespan, I'd probably have an extensive genetic catalogue of Earth organisms to preserve biodiversity. From there, it would be a matter of reviving them and gradually repopulating the world.
And I'd rebuild the planet using what was left of it and things mined from asteroids or other bodies in the Solar System. Obviously, it wouldn't be the same, but if it could sustain life again it would be worth it.
Sorry. Too much 7chan for one night. :p
Any 7chan is bad for you, Vetalia. Might want to quit the habit.

We'd lose quite a lot in this scenario, though...essentially everything we did not know ourselves is gone.
Now, I wonder...are ALL of us considered immortal and thus we can work together, or is this more a case of each personal solution to the problem when no one else has survived?
but everyone else is dead,

What's the point of doing anything now? Because we can.
As for what to rebuild with...there are plenty of resources left around. If a meteor shattered the planet then there should be far more than enough debris to at least gather together some resources. Could we fully rebuild the planet? Probably not, and I'm not sure if we'd want to take that approach because we'd run into problems...with Earth destroyed and its gravitational field disrupted severely the entire solar system would be thrown out of whack...no idea what would happen then.

I know, but I've crossed the event horizon of the /b/lack hole...
Now, I wonder...are ALL of us considered immortal and thus we can work together, or is this more a case of each personal solution to the problem when no one else has survived?
My guess is we'd each develop a personal solution; possibly, the blast itself crippled our ability to communicate with each other. That's why I want to stay off-planet, so that I can help prepare for any number of existential disasters that might befall us.
Is there an "all of the above" option?
Permanent life in isolation is perhaps the only circumstance in which I would bend my otherwise strict drug prohibition and enter a permanent state of chemically-induced mental dullness....

While you may convinced of your ability to have technology at your hands from the start, I am not. In fact, I'm pretty sure I'd be more or less as I am now, which means I'd probably not want to experience this in the first place. While I might have lofty goals I'd probably give them up, presuming I could even think in an environment where my body is subjective to absolute zero temperatures.

I assumed that the condition was technological immortality rather than a supernatural kind given to us for one reason or another, so I figured a similarly high technology level.
If it were the second one, I'd go with Plan B: Just drift through space until someone either finds me or I am somehow destroyed. It would be pretty horrible either way to be left floating alone in the freezing void, with nothing but the icy stars and ruins of your former world surrounding you...

Well, take a look at his situation. Earth is randomly destroyed through a series of events and we're immortal. We have no other information, but presumeably he means for it to take place in the present. As such technological immortality is not possible.
That's why I'd hate for this situation to occur...it's probably the closest one could get to a true Hell, at least in the Christian sense.

So, in that case, Plan B. If I could find others, we could get to work figuring out where to drift in order to find a new world.

In some ways, it would be even worse. At least going to Hell confirms to you that there is a God ...here, you're totally alone and there isn't even the definite knowledge that there is a God to comfort you. And, to make matters worse, you will never be able to find our or enjoy the mercy of death. Nothing but darkness, cold, and loneliness; hopefully not forever, but 1,000 years of this would feel like an eternity.
That would actually be one of the worst punishments concievable, at least from a psychological standpoint.

"I will create new races... new races that will serve ME!"
So, in that case, Plan B. If I could find others, we could get to work figuring out where to drift in order to find a new world.
If we were lucky...it'd take millions of years to get anywhere, and even if we got somewhere we'd likely be attracted by the gravity of one planet or another, or even an asteroid. We might find ourselves trapped in the core of Jupiter or something.

I would wander through the burned shells of once-great buildings until even they crumbled to dust. Loneliness and madness having set in long before, I will attempt again and again to destroy myself, until I simply give up and the sleep takes me.

DESTROYED!

What happens to you?
I'll refer you to my spiritual advisor Bob Dobbs. Really, all of this is covered in the Book of the Subgenius. Earth will be destroyed, and you will die horribly - except for those of us who are not Pink in Bob's eyes. We'll all be taken aboard the Pleasure Saucers and given a ringside seat to watch Earth's destruction.

Hmm...I wonder if the ability to look at celestial magnificences in never-before-seen clarity would actually get boring?
If it did...I don't know what I'd do...although getting sucked and stuck into Jupiter's core sounds suckish.

Other, and I'm not entirely convinced that our current technology isn't enough to create immortality.
Given that protein based degradation of cells can occur quite rapidly, i.e. Mad Cow Disease, we can use a similar protein that has had it's genetic code "erased" and replaced with copies of the person's dna at that point in time. This protein can be mass produced for one person quite easily, and the problems inherent with degradation of elasticity and the ability to create new cells inherent to relatively younger generations of cells can be avoided entirely by reverting to the older generation continually via this protein-based ailment.
The real question is....How did we survive? I can't think of a way to get enough people off the planet with enough resources to last longer than a few days, so I'm gonna say.....Underground bunkers? We're screwed. I'm getting as drunk as I can, as high as I can, and screwing as much as I can.

Float in space. Poo a few times. Land on a tiny planet of Liliput-esque people and become their God. Get bored. Destroy said planet through boredom. Float in space some more. Get pulled into the gravity of a sun. Spen thousands of years in unbelievably burning torment. Get propelled many lightyears when the sun goes nova. Get sucked into a black-hole. End up on a parallel Earth where everything is the same except Ruffy is 2cm taller. Rinse and repeat.

I always thought indefinite lifespan meant you could be killed, while immortal meant you could neither die nor be killed.
I always thought indefinite lifespan meant you could be killed, while immortal meant you could neither die nor be killed.
Immortal just means you are not mortal (cannot die of old age/does not age.) one aspect could be that one would 'hover' between life and death until conditions assure one or the other. i.e. body hurling into a sun/black hole = death or body landing on a planet capable of sustaining life = life.
to be invulnerable (cannot be physically harmed) or Environmentally independant (able to live in any environmental conditions) would be a better choice.
