So, I am sure everyone knows that today is the day celebrated by Christians worldwide for the crufixion of Christ, which allowed for the sins of those who accept Him, to be wiped away. Well, at this time of year, many people do different types of things. Some people in the Philippines reenact the Passion, I believe that catholics have a special mass, and many other people do other things. This year, I am going to fast this whole weekend, starting at midnight, until 1 pm Sunday. Why I choose that time is because my church is having a free Easter feast on Sunday :D. Anyways, I am not doing this fasting because I feel that i need to be sorrowful and giving up crap and all that. I am doing it because its a chance for me to get closer to God, and build a better relationship with Him.

Anyways, any one doing anything special for Good Friday, or Easter?

Not really.
Although on the Sunday I'll still eat Easter eggs. I may be an agnostic but what the hey, it's chocolate.

Okay people, I think it's nap time for all of you.

Didn't really do anything for Good Friday, never really ever have. I always saw Easter Sunday as the more important date *shrugs*.

It's just another friday to me. In fact, I might even say that the death of christ would be a reason to celebrate, not fast.

We celebrate too. We believe that in dying he took the blame for our sin and he came back to life the next suday, so...

I'm going home to see my family (I should already be on my way...) to celebrate Easter with them.

Hope you have a pleasant weekend, may He guide you in your spiritual quest to get to know Him better. ;)

My fiance is coming in from out of town, so we'll have a quiet dinner tonight at either a fish or pasta joint, visit with friends on Saturday, go to my church's Easter Breakfast and mass, then head to my brother's for enough food to feed an army. (Good to be Italian on holidays, lemme tell you.)

Hijack split off.

Sorry about that. I'll send you an Easter Egg in the post.

I'm afraid I'm not doing anything special for Good Friday this year, except quiet reflection. I've got a huge amount to be grateful for, and so will continue to offer my thanks for all that I have.

Good Friday is a very important day to celebrate. While Easter is also very important, the key is that Jesus died for us on Good Friday. It was today that saved our souls. Easter is a time for rejoicing, because not eve Satan could stop the power of Christ.

There's a very interesting theological question of whether Judas is the hero of the New Testament, because without him we would have no Good Friday, and without that, we have no Christianity.

Anyway...I'm actually working at the grocery shop today. Good Friday, two days away from Easter...they are going to need ALL the help they can get!

Judas wasn't a hero, I mean it could have been anyone else that did it. The point was that Jesus was betrayed, arrested, and then sent to his death.

We're driving to my future in-laws' house either tonight or tomorrow. We'll probably have a nice dinner for Easter, and his mom likes buying Easter gifts as well. They aren't big church-goers, so my reflection on Easter will probably be my own.

Of course, Lent ends then, so I'll probably have some of the things I gave up for Lent. =)

How screwed up is it that ya'll celebrate the day your savior got nailed to a couple boards?.because it is the sacrifice of death that appeases the christian god and makes him forgive the original sin of adam.

Well I don't care to get into that, but it just strikes me that if I were in Jesus' place I'd be a bit creeped out by it all.

I assume you meant the debate we had going?
Darn it.

By split off, I hope you mean it wasn't simply deleted. Is it possible to place it in a new thread for continuing the discussion, especially as I didn't see any since my last post was made?

I believe that catholics have a special mass

Actually, Good Friday is the only day of the year when there is NO Mass. At any other time of the year, in any minute or even every second, there is a Mass going on somewhere. (at least theoretically, it might get messed up occaisonally by special cirumstances) On Good Friday, many Catholic churches have some special service, but there is no Eucharist and the services leave out several other parts of the Mass.

If I were Jesus I'd be creeped out that two billion people were following me and taking my teachings completely out of context, then celebrating me because I got nailed to a cross just for being a street-preaching hippie.
