Chicago: It's my kind of town

I figure this forum needs a topic on the City of Chicago.

This topic is open from everything from the politics and corruption of the only surviving political machine in the nation, stories of Chicago's history, neat things to do in Chicago, stories of past visits, urban legends about the city, arguing the merits of what makes true Chicago style dogs and pizzas, and of course the city's teams.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't mind a Northside vs. Southside argument.

Chi-town has the White Sox...booooooo!

And the Cubs, which just means misery for their fans.

After they bulldozed the old projects, things really got better.

Must be something good going on there. The one time I visited on a road trip all the hotels were full and we had to stay in a hotel out by O'hare airport. Is it always that packed on weekends in the summer? Does the whole Midwest go there on their free time?

It gets packed from the last week of June through the 4th when they have the Taste of Chicago. There is just so much to do in the city during the summer. It's packed with beautiful beaches and a very beautiful lakeshore. I have to say I'm glad the city government hasn't allowed development east of LSD.

Yeah, going to Sox games is so much nicer without the Robert Taylor Homes across the Damn Ryan. I also enjoy Oldtown more when I realize that Cabrini-Green is no longer just a block away.

I've heard more amazing things about ToC than I care to recount...I'll have to make it up there sometime for that.

Meh, another big city with the mixture of culture and amusements with poverty and crime.

Chicago sucks.

Of course, I don't like big cities period. So don't take it personally.

I can understand a dislike for big cities when you'e in the same state as Detroit. I used to live in SE Michigan and Detroit gave me a bad taste when it comes to large cities.

Oh, well.
Then allow me to retort,
I dont see what is so special about Chicago anyway.

Visit the city in June and then tell me that.

As for uniqueness, we are the only city left with a true political machine.

Read Mike Royko's "Boss." It is a truly amazing look at the Chicago political machine.

Actually my statement is a common statement made by people from my particualr geographic area because of a ravalry with Chicago...therefore in the theme of the thread I am being that token individual.

I really have no beef with Chicago, but any conversation about needs that one guy who says " I dont see what is so special about Chicago."

As far as what it takes to make a place special...point of veiw is about the only thing that does it...museums, attractions, rivers, scenery are all shite...its eye of the beholder. So you are asking to define a concept that has as many definitions as there are people on the earth...I am not up to that challenge I would rather just play my role and say...

I dont see what is so special about Chicago .

And for the record I have been to Chicago many times, and i remain unimpressed.

I love my city. If only we could get rid of the White Sox fans.

Or at least make them be quiet and get their team out of here.

I am living in chicagoland right now. I am living in Westmont area. I am originally from Minnesota. I find this town actually spectacular, only because i come from a state and city that is boring to me. They have a ton more stuff to do here from museums to authentic food from all over the world. Now i will say that other towns have this similar thing, but i like chicago area alot.
