Many Americans...

...know more about American Idol Contestants than Presidential hopefuls. ANd not only that, parents are cheering on their teenagers as they name the Idol contestants. America got what it deserves. *harumphs* Oh yes, there's a video on Yahoo! about this...here (http://www.yahoo.com/s/549332). I hope it works. Yahoo! videos are known to suck, although they've gotten better lately.

So what do you think?

Indeed, 4 people are a completely valid sampling of the United States.

I watched this on GMA this morning. It made me sad, yet I felt smart because I knew most of the political people and almost none of the American Idol contestants.

Why should anybody be obligated to care about the Nov. 2008 candidates in March 2007?

True, but I doubt they'll find out in time.

I don't know jack about American Idol.
Though, I do know who that Sanjai freak is because of Howard Stern.

The politicians they asked to identify weren't even hard ones.

Yeah I only know Sanjaya because he's not supposed to be there...

I'm proud to say I voted for Sanjaya to take that shitty show off the air ASAP.

I was familiar with all of the politicians. As for American Idol, I don't even know why that show is so popular. The only time watch it is when my brain is numb from studying for midterms or if I'm hopelessly bored.

American Idol contestants are, presumably*, more telegenic and entertaining than politicians. (Who are dull and ugly to say the least). So it only makes sense that more people know about them.

Banning TV would be the answer I suppose. It's not like there is ever anything on to watch usually anyway.

*I don't watch network TV ever, so I have to speculate about this.

Eh, Obama isn't so bad.

(Not, of course, that I would ever sink so low as to look at those who run the statist-capitalist-imperialist machine in such a way.)

Yeah, but I'm going for the worst of the worst. Ted Kennedy replaced Strom Thurmond for the bottom of the barrel a few years ago.

The American political campaign season (really a permanent campaign) has become so long that the average voter should probably know most of the major candidates, even though it's a year and a half before the elections. The fact that most American voters seem to know more about American Idol than the 2008 candidates indicates either a frightening (in terms of modern elections) general lack of knowledge about the 2008 campaign or a frightening general level of obsession over American Idol.

I'd put my money on the latter.

He's not a presidential candidate, though. Thankfully.

Politically, you are all gruesome.

I have standards. ;)

To quote a political cartoon I saw once: "Is it too early to hate all the candidates?" :)

I don't "hate" them quite yet. I'll start building up my hatred after the nomination.

I just wish they would shut up. As long as there isn't a Republican in the White House in February 2009....
