Well not yet, but I remember they were quite keen on this during the last recession, so maybe this time around they will pull it off.

Anyway, I'm all for it. Mostly because it's the type of thing that always goes horribly wrong, and therefore will give me much amusement (but also because I hope they take Maine and maple syrup with them).

I'm sure plenty of people will be like "can't secede....civil war....inapposite analogy blah, blah, blah", but they really are missing the big picture here: which is, of course, watching a state, wholly supported by social security payments and with the economic potential of Zimbabwe, posture about how independent they are - hillarity will no doubt ensue.

(Note to Vermont, you are not Switzerland, and tree sap is not nearly as marketable as fancy pocket knives and sparkly watches).

Frank Bryan and the Vermont commons have been around for a while.

If Vermont secedes, I'm moving (immigrating?) there.

Your right about the Vermont economy. If they did it would be amusing.

I think you will see a boom in the pancake sector of neighbouring states.

Finally, I can achieve my goal of being a military-governor of an occupied territory. I wonder if they have any decent mansions for me to use as a headquarters?

I never realized Vermont had the strength to back out of the union and then protect itself from the following onslaught. *grabs popcorn*

If Vermont could actually support itself, I would support this.

Actually, they have a lot of nice houses in Vermont. It really is a pretty state.

It's a lot of retired people though. So I don't see where the money/manpower is going to come from for yr military.

Who isn't living on stolen land these days? My ancestors worked damn hard to steal this land, dammit!

Ah, but the key point is that you arent pretending that it was right, or handing out condemnation to other people for stealing land.

True that. By rights it should go back to the Queen.

And then the Queen can give it back to the Indians, who can give it back to the Indians they stole it from.
Who can in turn return it to whatever pre-humans happened to live there, if we can find any. They can then return it to Xenu or whoever the hell owned it 11,256,123 years ago.

Why do you think she looks constipated all the time?

And then we can give it back to the magma that created the land in the first place, and then we can give that back to whatever caused the original nebula our solar system formed from, and then we can give that back to the Big Bang, and we can give that back to--um...what do we give that back to?

Ah, screw it. 1/0!

My only question is what would this do to the price of maple syrup?
