Midwest Regional NS Meet

Okay, that sounds bigger than it is. GnI is coming to Champaign, IL, to meet with me for some business stuff, but I figured since he's here, if anyone else is interested in meeting up in one of the nearby cities, I could get us both there.

So here are the options.

April 28

Chicago/St. Louis/Indianapolis or thereabouts.

Post here if you're interested.

EDIT: First beer is on GnI.

I don't care if you've just arrived at NS. If you're interested meeting some nice veterans (I promise I'm very nice in person) or you've been here forever and just want to know if GnI is as sexy as he claims. If anyone comes that is under 21 we'll try to hold it at a restaurant/bar and we'll ensure there are some people there who make sure it's safe for younger people. Of course, we'll also send you home at a certain time so we can have real fun ;-)

If you're interested at all... say so and we'll work it out so you can come.

worst possible weekend/location.

for a sec, I was thinking St. Louis, MO which would have worked, however... still a bad weekend.

I'd really like to work with you on this if possible. I'm willing to do a lot to get some of us together. Is there anything I can do to make it possible for you?

Why is it a bad weekend, if you don't mind my asking? Where are you located?

How far from Indy, are you? If y'all will show up, I'll gladly set it there. It's really a first come first serve thing.

I really think it would be cool to meet some of the posters here.

New, old, agree with me or don't, it'll be fun to do something besides argue and flirt.

I can totally make it to MO, IL is a bit far to drive. April sucks for me due to taxes, people think it's over on the 15th but it's not, I have extensions to deal with, plus that weekend my kid has this big freaking musical, she is Annie, I am 99% sure they can't do Annie without her, and I am 100% sure it's not something that will go on without me. (without major trauma that is)

What are you doing this summer? LOL

Maybe we can work something out for this summer. Set a date and place and I'll help you organize it.

No political arguments at the meet! Amazing!

Anyway, I'm in Cincinnati, though I'm not sure it will matter as my being available is up in the air. But maybe it'll happen...

Well, drink beer and flirt. I wasn't aiming to argue, however. I won't stop you if that's how you flirt, though.

Why? Are you gonna show up? You have to admit that GnI and I is a pretty enticing combination. My style is much easier to take in person because I'm pretty.

You know why it's a bad week? Because it means I have to stop getting fatter, and I'm really enjoying getting fatter. What's the point of having money if you can't use it to buy cookies?

With puppets, it's probably considerably less than that.

You mean designed italics. Claiming He invented them would be unscientific. That He designed them, however, should be taught in classrooms.

Ah. See the 'fries' thread that turned into a 'lust for curry' hijack. Cookies are okay, but if you are working up the fat, you really need chicken tikka masala.

Yes, I know. I'm assuming 100,000 users or so over NS's history, with 1.6 million nations created (or so).

You mean designed italics. Claiming He invented them would be unscientific. That He designed them, however, should be taught in classrooms.

Pah, semantics. Invention may be less politically correct, but it still describes the general action.

Or Gyros for lunch. Or sesame crusted tuna with a scallops appetizer for dinner and a souffle designed for two for dessert.

Seriously, I just can't stop. When I first started my business I was so strapped that now I feel I need to make up for it by never turning down a menu item.

You're going to have to deal with this problem soon too. And then you'll be trying to convince everyone at the summer meet that you really were skinny until you suddenly had money and a bunch of consultants to be bad influences.

Gyros is about the same as a doner kebab, right? (For our English listeners, who are porbably more familiar with kebabs). I'm definitely down wih kebabs.

It has to be said, the biggest block against middle-age spread for me thus far, has been pauperdom. Given my fondness for food, especially (it seems) whatever has the most calories on the menu, I could be in trouble. Now - if I can just find somewhere in the US I can get a proper Cornish pasty and some black pudding.... *salivates*

Ah... it's all about dosages, and accessorising.

If you've laced the tikka with yogurt, and you've eaten the papadams, the samosas and the bhajis, and you're making a start on the keema naan bread...

But, you are right. Don't listen to me. Chicken tikka masala is good for you. Eat it. Eat it all.

Don't forget the chutney tray that goes with the popadoms. Or the chapattis. Or parathas. :) (And keema naan? Why? Plain or garlic/coriander every time for me).

Oh yeah, then when you've finished the curry, round off the meal with a nice lassi or some kulfi.

I just ate lunch, but reading this is already making me hungry again...

(I'm actually not in too much danger of getting fat off of Indian food, anyway, because, while I do eat it whenever possible, "whenever possible" is not terribly often, seeing as the only Indian restaurant I know of in my area is a tad out of my price range, and I rarely have time to cook anything as complicated as chicken tikka masala for myself. But if I won the lottery and then moved somewhere with a better selection of restaurants, I would have thunder-thighs in no time. :p )

A Gyro is a pita bread sandwich. It contains lamb meat, cucumber sauce, tomatoes and onions inside of a pocket bread. Not Kebabs. Kebabs are healthy.

And, imagine this, you go from a nice salary job to starting your own business. You work for months with nobody paying your invoices even though the cost of being on site week after week is $2000/week. For the last six weeks or so we (all of the owners) had to split small payouts just to have enough to pay the expenses each week. Utility bills are late and I have to eat out of the hotel pantry (little sandwiches) because the hotel already has all of my money and they take a little extra for incidentals, so it won't increase what they're holding.

Each time I finally get paid, my last bank account is overdrawn.

And then, in one single week, the one company who owes us the most, a LOT of money, fires their accountant and pays up. All of it. Suddenly, every penny I made for months and all of my expenses are paid to me in a day. Imagine you just got paid for your last six months of work, today.

You can see why recently, I've been going a little above and beyond the normal meal.

Now, what I've described probably isn't that unusual for you either (except maybe the last part) so I suspect that for about two months, you're probably going to try and swallow anything anyone puts in front of you.

Actually a doner kebab is pretty much identical to that, though usually in Britain you don't get the tzatziki.

Ah... different types of kebab, I think. The 'donner' kebab sounds like a pretty good match. I'm not sure about swallowing anything put in front of me... I might overturn my decade-long 'one meal per day' scenario though. Lord help me, I'm tipping the scale at over 235 lbs already. Thank Merciful Zeus I'm tall....

I'm not sure which comments you're talking about exactly but his brother is younger than him, actually. :p And Ruffy very much drinks his own drinks. ;p

You brother's name is Sally? Is it short for something? Like... 'Bob', maybe?

I have no idea where you got to idea that my brother was younger than me..

And if I knew what you were smoking, I would have included some of it in the envelope I just taped up and addressed to you.

Either of the three cities you've mentioned would work for me on that date.

Not at all. I can visit some other friends while I'm there, so it works out very nicely.

I don't have a camera that's functional at this point, so someone else will have to handle that.

Not that my perfect face for radio needs to be taken a picture of anyway. :p

*pouts* Sorry, guys, but GnI and I will have work to do too late into Saturday. There's no way we can make it a reasonable time. I'll try to create a meet for a later date. I'll give a couple months notice and maybe we can actually get a good turnout.

Sorry, again.
