Scientology scares me, the un-funny ytmnd on scientology gave me nightmares. :(

It is also a brainwash cult and as many of you know I consider brainwash to be an unforgivable evil. Besides its "leaders" are only after money and it's beliefs can be dis proven with science, the age of the earth alone can disprove it. And psychology being against their religion goes to show that they are afraid that the psychologist would smell the tainted scent of brainwash. Its like saying going to the doctor is against your religion because if you go the doc will find traces of abuse or poison which would be analogical to the crap they fill their heads with and the psychological abuse they do to their followers. Trust me, if there wasn't psychological abuse then the majority of the cases on the un-funny truth wouldn't have gone mad. The very founder actually said that starting religions is a perfect way to get rich.

And yet you voted for "Joke taken too far"? Funny, the more *I* learned about it, the more it got obvious (if needed to be any clearer) that it's a brainwashy cult.

Oh, and you just might have to share that title with another poster whose name escapes me at the moment (I'm thinking something with Beachboys, but I might be making that up) who posted on the previous Scientology threads.

That said, I'm also going to have to bail now until some time tomorrow night when this thread will long have sunken into oblivion, sorry about the hit and run. :/

Not creepy. Think positive. Bait. Combined with an ip trace it becomes an invaluable tool. Combine ip trace with a CMOS virus specifically designed to disable the power unit voltage regulator, and hilarity ensues.

There's one of them in my neighborhood. She came to my door despite the large sign beside it: "No religious affiliations or solicitors of any kind. Thank you."

"Would you like something or other testing for free?"

"No thanks."

"Why not, do you not believe in sound body and mind?"

"I have a sound body, that's good enough." *fake smile*

"I'm sure you've heard of Scientology."

At that point I stopped being friendly as I've been civil enough at this point.

"I'm sorry but I'm not interested."

"Ok, have a nice day sir."

She came back three days in a row until I threatened to call the cops and file a restraining order. Each day she became more and more pushy, and said she'd sue if I didn't lock my dogs up. I see her walking down the street every now and then. Crazy bitch.

A scientologist recruiter handed me a pamphlet in Times Square when I was in New York, so I suppose you don't need to be a wealthy Hollywood-type to join. That's nice and egalitarian of them.. but otherwise, I'd categorize them as more than a bit nutty.

Specifically, your access to church doctrine is limited at the outset, so you only get glimpses of what they stand for and teach until you progress within the church.. makes it a bit difficult to know what you're involved in, and explains why a good number drop out once they're deemed "qualified" to learn about the alien spirits and such. :p

You don't need to be wealthy to join, they'll just take all your money and have you working for them for minimum wage, every cent of which goes into the shitty living conditions they give you and the fraudulent E-meter tests.

Nothing concrete apart from Travolta being the main actor, except that it seems an interesting coincidence to have Psi/telekinesis - which I recall being present in parts of Scientology doctrine - being demonstrated by Travolta's character.

/off topic sorta: My mother was given a little book by some newly joined (at the time) JW's in my family. It read like a telemarketers or salesman guide if you will. The JWs also give that book out if they think they're about to get a new recruit, who'll need to break it to their non-JW family. This happens even before the expected newb even sees the inside of the "Kingdom Hall" (where they meet). I think they expect the family to shit bricks and argue.

I was about 16 when I got a copy of that...I was almooost ready to "sign on the dotted line" so to speak. What I'd heard so far (emphasis on SO FAR) didn't sound bad...

But my mother didn't freak out or argue--she just said, "go to the meeting, and see what you think of it."

So I did.
At the time, I had not run across such hypocrisy in my life as I saw at their "meeting!" All along in their visits, they'd harped on the issue of modesty. They had said to be modest all the time, etc...over and over again. Yet when I got there, it was nothing but a huge display of how well they learned their Watchtower and Awake! that week. Such arrogance! And over such a thing as that!

I figured if they could be huge hypocritcal BSers on that--something that had been a major plank in the platform presented to me--they would have a whole lot more BS yet to come, and I bolted without ever signing on.

Later on when I read more about them, I'm very glad I didn't end up buying in.

They also practice shunning. They are taught this. Which is one of the most un-Godly things you can do to anyone IMO. About the week... well all over, all of them are hearing the same thing. So they are all on one page. But really.. I'll be honest.. before a family member got into it.. I didn't know much, didn't research ofcourse.. had no reason to. And I wouldn't had if they didn't start acting the way they did. Now they go around to any family members funeral home(which has become frequent-- since the WWII'ers are dieng off) and leave a scripture number beside their name. It's a psalm .. and I have read it.. but I cannot remember the exact passage atm. But I do know they are implying that it says the dead is Not going to heaven or to meet the lord in any way.. they are going to sleep. They believe only their 'annointed' will go to heaven. I had said family member tell me this when my mother was dieing .. all I had said was is that she will go to the lord... she will be at peace.. they had a freakin cow and screamed she will not go to the lord! Basically, They were freakin aholes and showed no sign of the holy spirit. They were worse off as people than before they joined it.

Their methods are very much the same. They make people feel somehow inadequate on their own, and the people then seek completion through the religous teachings.

Actually, I read that their methods are much more sophisticated. Unfortunately, I lost the link, but it was an article on "training routines" or something, written by an ex-Scientologist.

I would say not relative to a lot of cults.

OK, I've found an article about their methods, not the one I read before; it's shorter and less detailed, but here's the link anyway:

I am familiar with the "overt hypnosis", its that strange bug-eyed look cultists give you when trying to convert you, they're basically sending messages via body language to insert stuff in your head. I wonder if doing the same thing in order to deprogram them would work?
