Two people were just shot to death a block away

I was walking to class at around 9:20 this morning, and when I was on my way back to my dorm at 10:30, there were police cars and a crowd on the sidewalk that I had taken to class an hour before. Apparently, two people were shot and killed inside the building that was about a block away from where I live. It's on the news already.

I don't know, discuss? I felt I had to share, this is pretty crazy.

I really hope it wasn't anyone I knew. I have a lot of friends who attend the University of Washington.
Now I feel really guilty for saying that...

I have no idea, I only saw city and campus police cars there. Maybe some firefighters were close enough when it happened.

MedicOne runs through the Fire Department locally. I'm assuming that whoever called 911 probably reported no continuing gunfire, and so the responsibility for the issue was passed along to ambulances.

I get the feeling that they weren't students, but there's not much information yet. It took place inside an office in the architecture building.

Um... OK, if guns didn't exist they would never have been shot and died of gunshot wounds!
Was that a good start?

and uh...because guns do exist...if there weren't all these restrictions on gun ownership, then the people in the building would have been able to defend themselves?

If they had a tank or nuclear weapon nobody would have fucked with them. They should make those freely available too. :)

Message for you sir!
'tis just a flesh wound...
*Feels lucky that it's not a gunshot wound!*

Aha! So if everyone had a gun, he would have been shot years ago and this would never have happened! You win!
See? The issue can be settled :)

Meh. A guy killed his wife, and two of her friends, and his son right down the street.
Tried to kill himself, ended up paralized and in prison for life. :)

Firefighters include EMTs. It's probably that they were there in case someone needed emergency medical help.

Apparently, it's about stalking ex-boyfriends.
Even if he hadn't had a gun, the protective order was obviously worthless, and he would have killed her with his bare hands if he had to.

No reason to feel guilty. I still wish daily that the fire that killed my friend had taken anyone else. Natural reaction

Aye. I don't think the point of all this was that guns = bad. Just that Ginnoria was a tad freaked out about it.

I was in a similar siuation last year, except that it was a hit and run car accident.
Everything along the road I walked to university was clear, and on my way about an hour later the road was blocked and several police cars and an ambulance. As I remember she was pronounced dead on arival at the hospital.
Not a shooting, but a one minute everything is fine, and the next everything is messy moment.

Two weeks ago, when I was in Whistler, BC, some East Indian gang member shot someone for apparently no good reason.
It was the first murder in 30 years.

Last summer there was a shooting on the rooftop patio of a nightclub, clearly visible from our studio window. I was alerted to this by one of the photo-retouchers, who tried getting me to look at the crime scene through a telephoto lens. To say I was repulsed by his offer is to put it mildly, though I instead simply put on a bland face and politely declined.

Last year, a good friend of ours was murdered by a drug addict he had taken in to try and help. Bastard beat him so badly he was unidentifiable. The coroner however ruled that it was only manslaughter, get this; because he died from a heart attack due to the shock of being attacked, not due to the attack itself. He got 8 months. Fortunately, Phil had a lot of friends in prison.

I can't even describe how mad that makes me.
I hope that guy gets raped in prison every single day for his pitifully small 8 month sentence.
