Where the hell did you get a VOB file from?
Anyways, why do you need it in MP4 format?

unfortunatly, I did. but since they only give all products ( 1,610,000 results) that do so and not which ones are better than the other, it doesn't serve my purpose. so instead of paying $30+ for each one to try out (assuming all of them are not POS programs designed to just sucker money away from people.) I am asking for Generalite suggestions or experiences as to which program do they think is better. for all I know, someone out there may have one that is the best to use, but it could also be the last on the list.

pop a DVD into your DVD drive and open the drive. scan down and you'll find the movie is a VOB file.
converting to MPeg3/4 makes it playable on a PSP/pc without a DVD drive. ;)

Wouldn't the resaulting files be so large the only reovable medium You could keep them on was a DVD, unless you're using a network or something.

If you have the DVD, rip it properly! You could try HandBrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/). I've never used it (I use dvd::rip, which is Linux only), but it supports mp4, and looks simple enough to use.

nope... besides, I have 3+ gigs to play with on my PSP, and a 160 external HDD to store it on. ;)
Edit: the VOB files are broken down. so each file isn't that big.
