Which House Is More Environmentally Friendly?

HOUSE # 1:

A 20-room mansion (not including 8 bathrooms) heated by natural gas. Add on a pool (and a pool house) and a separate guest house all heated by gas. In ONE MONTH ALONE this mansion consumes more energy than the average American household in an ENTIRE YEAR. The average bill for electricity and natural gas runs over $2,400.00 per month. In natural gas alone (which last time we checked was a fossil fuel), this property consumes more than 20 times the national average for an American home. This house is not in a northern or Midwestern "snow belt," either. It's in the South.

HOUSE # 2:

Designed by an architecture professor at a leading national university, this house incorporates every "green" feature current home construction can
provide. The house contains only 4,000 square feet (4 bedrooms) and is nestled on arid high prairie in the American southwest. A central closet in the house holds geothermal heat pumps drawing ground water through pipes sunk 300 feet into the ground. The water (usually 67 degrees F.) heats the house in winter and cools it in summer. The system uses no fossil fuels such as oil or natural gas, and it consumes 25% of the electricity required for a conventional heating/cooling system. Rainwater from the roof is collected and funneled into a 25,000 gallon underground cistern. Wastewater from showers, sinks and toilets goes into underground purifying tanks and then into the cistern. The collected water then irrigates the land surrounding the house. Flowers and shrubs native to the area blend the property into the surrounding rural landscape.

Let me guess, House 1 is Al Gore's.

http://www.bjacked.net/LuvToHunt/forums/phpBB2/modules/gallery/albums/album01/Beat_Dead_Horse.jpgMy first thought, too, but I'm pretty sure he's going for the "it's in the arid Southwest drawing groundwater, hence it's more evil" angle with the second one. Everything else would just be too obvious. Of course how that makes it more evil than the first one, I wouldn't know.

Edit: Then again, maybe you're right and the big punchline is that the second one belongs to some Republican who's famously disbelieving of human caused climate change or some such.

Wow. I guess you've been right about everything all along. How stupid we were to question.

Christ. Do you think this proves anything about...anything? Having a relatively environmentally friendly house hardly even begins to make up for every other environmental policy of Bush and his Republican fuckbuddies. When they wise up and actually try to do something about the environment, then maybe you'll be on to something.

Now, when is the valid point going to come along?

My eyes are clear, thanks.

Now, what would be a good point is if you actually had something to say about Bush not signing Kyoto, or any of the other environmental policy fuckups. Or do you actually think this house thing makes any difference, in any way? Because, sorry, I'm not buying it.

But of course, if you had any other ammo against the dems, or any way to back up Bush and his cronies, I imagine you would have posted it by now, huh?

Make a real point, or just stop bothering. Jolt has enough server problems without you cluttering it with nonsense.

on the information provided, the second house appears to be more environmentally friendly. but then i wouldn't trust the OP as far as i could throw him to provide accurate, unbiased, objectively gathered information.

so i'll revise my first sentence: of these two fictional houses the second is perhaps the most environmentally friendly, not considering other factors which may mitigate or exacerbate the environmental impacts directly or indirectly associated with their use.

The second house it more environmentally friendly. I'm no fan of Bush, but I'm not going to lie and say that a house which burns massive amounts of fossil fuels to support its extravagance is more environmentally friendly than his own residence. That's just plain intellectually dishonest.

Eve, I see that you have no problem perpetuating lies regarding Gore's house. Former President Gore's home not only serves as the location of the fully staffed offices of himself and his wife, he also pays for Green Offsets on all energy used. Before you work yourself into a tizzy decrying offsets as a way for rich people to pay for their guilt, remember that the money from offsets goes to developing Green Energy. That means that he is not merely paying out guilt, he is actively fixing things, in exchange for his energy use.

Not stop flogging a long dead horse. Your wingnuttery is apparent enough.

Here's one (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2007/02/28/AR2007022801823.html)
Kalee Kreider, a spokeswoman for Gore, called the statement misleading.

"The power coming into their residence is green, renewable power," she said, explaining that the Gores participate in a program called Green Power Switch, which is run through the public Tennessee Valley Authority. Green Power Switch supplies energy from renewable sources to its members.

Kreider added that a renovation of the Gores' house is underway to make it more energy efficient, an update that will include the addition of solar panels.
