I obviously wasn't around for it yet but yesterday someone told me about the April Fool's creation of Forum 7 - which I had to admit will probably be forever unbeaten in terms of April Fool's glory.

And honestly, if you weren't here for the phpBB forums, you can't talk about your post count. Back in my day, there was no "spam" forum or other lame Jolt forums to add posts to, and we had to walk seven miles in the snow to get to our forums. BOTH WAYS. At least we didn't have these stupid fluffle smileys. http://www.phpbb.com/community/images/smilies/icon_twisted.gif

God, after about 04, those forums were terrible. They were the single reason I quit for about 6 months. And I broke my old keyboard after going German Kid on it when the old forums has PMS.

Oh, the memories.

Man, I remember forum 7. I also remember the April Fool's when they reset all the populations to 5 million. That was in my first year, I was devastated until I figured it out. Just seeing all the people here asking what F7 was makes me feel so damn old... it's terrible. I miss that though, and the old forums. Except when they were slow. Which was always. But it added an element of excitement and surprise...("Can I get on General today, or do I have to wait until everyone on the East Coast gets off and goes to sleep?").

Wow, this is so weird. So many people who were never around for the old times. Hmm, who here remembers Catholic Europe. I would mention others, but I think they were far too well known.

Oh yeah, back when I was peon and we fought to otherthrow the NSG Forum Royalty: Beeker, Paratoga, Tink, and their ilk. Actually Tink wasn't quiteso sure where her loyalties lay and engaged in varying amounts of espionage. Oooh, and there was Big Jim P as well. There were a fair few satanists back then.

Oh, and then there was the Archnemsis of General... well maybe not arch. But he jused his moddy powers to repulse the General invasion into the Nationstates forum. Bah.

edit!: How could I forget Big Mad Vikings. I still have a TG he sent me from his original nation. As of today the telegram is exactly 1211 days old.

I was at several hundred million and still at the point where I cared about my nation, instead of just using it as a vehicle for access to General. Needless to say, I was quite upset. But that tantalizing glimpse of access to Forum 7 more than made up for it.

HAH...
I remember before there were any mods, and the ToS agreement said you can do anything because Mr MaxxBarry didnt agree with restricting any form of speech on a website about political discussion... Of course this was back before he expected to get 5000 unique viewers a year...

Back then you had to be careful opening anything - getting in was fine but you had a high chance (>5%) of getting goatze'd or similar. Mods were still a year off then...

I wish we only had to walk 5 miles uphill in the snow each way to post... we had to do 15 miles through lava and then make our own TTF fonts and web interface EACH word we wanted to post.
