George W. Bush has apologized for the crappy conditions at Walter Reed. Awful big of him, too.

WASHINGTON - President Bush apologized Friday for the shoddy conditions at Walter Reed Army Medical Center and promised during a visit to the facility for war veterans that "we're going to fix the problem."

Critics questioned the timing of Bush's visit six weeks after poor conditions and neglect of veterans were exposed there.

Bush toured the main hospital and Abrams Hall, where soldiers were transferred after they were vacated from the facility's Building 18, the site of moldy walls, rodent infestation and other problems that went unchecked until reported by the media. He said his conversations with those who had been in Building 18 left him "disturbed by their accounts."

Is this just political posturing?

....duh.

Bush has "apologized" and "taken responsibility" for som many things that have not, in the slightest, been fixed, that the words out of his mouth have lost any possible meaning.

Semi-on topic, did anyone see George's stand-up comedy at some dinner or other? it was pretty funny - almost made me want to think "the bastard can't be that bad", which of course was his aim. But still....
Trying to find a video now.
EDIT: here ya go;

on the daily show last night they had a clip of Karl Rove dancing to a rap song, looking like quite the jovial guy having a good time.

Stewart's response was something along the lines of "if jeffry daumer showed up at your bar mitzva and it turned out he was a great dancer....he's still jeffry daumer"

True. I'm wondering what it would take for anything he says to be considered genuine.

Retired Maj. Gen. Paul Eaton: "I'm convinced he would honor them more if he would refrain from using soldiers as props in political theater."

You gotta wonder why he bothers. He hasn't appeared to care much about how popular he is(or rather, isn't) previously. Why start now?

"A year ago my approval rating was in the 30s, my nominee for the Supreme Court had just withdrawn, and my vice president had shot someone. Ah, those were the good ol' days."

That's the whole point. He had his majority, he was untouchable, his party supported him and he could do what he want.

Then his party just took a thrashing in november, his mandate evaporated, and by all early indication their losses are going to get bigger in 2008.

Ah, I get it. It's only sunk in now that his party didn't do all that well in November. [/bushisstupidjoke]
