I think George Carlin came up with it in the 70's. I adopted it as my official religion sometime around then, and it was a natural choice when signing up here.

Knew about this before I joined. Caught the reference. Though that's partly because I'm relatively new here, and partly because I've been following (not following religiously, but rather keeping tabs on) Pastafarianism for some time.
