So...my FireFox frequently attempts to connect me to the intercrack via Dial-up. This freezes whatever pages I'm loading until the connection "fails" and it makes everything run really slow for minutes afterward. Any advice on how to fix this?

I had this problem, but I don't remember how I fixed it. I think it had something to do with the network connection settings, I think I made a dial up connection and clicked some boxes I wasn't supposed to. Have you done that recently?

Firefox keeps updating itself on me (this time it went from 2.0.0.2 to 2.0.0.3) and then dumping all of my extensions and themes. Which sucks. Last time they just started coming back, this time it hasn't happened. I had to reload Stumble because I can't live without it, and I miss the Google bar because its spell checker is better than FireFoxes...

I wish it wouldn't do that...

That is lame. I'm glad mine has never done that.

My biggest beef is having to wrap 32 bit plugins for use on a 64 bit browser.

Well, I wish I had gotten back to you earlier, but I would delete those dial-up connections, if you have cable of course. I think DSL can do the same thing, actually.

Just get rid of anything you created and aren't using.

Pretty sure viruses and whatever are starting to hit it. Hackers know it's a popular browser now.

Something I thought about the other day was.. who is it that makes these viruses and trojans etc etc? Certainly not just some bored geeks. Whoever makes them have a reason. Is it the virus removal or browser, or pc, or advertising companies?

No it's not a conspiracy theory. The many that do it have a bigger reason for doing it .. than just doing it.

May I inquire how? Just in case I ever run into a similar problem.

I think you'll find most viruses are released by bored geeks. Most aren't done maliciously - it's just done to see if it can be done. exploit issues, that sort of thing.
Nowadays you can get programs to create viruses for you, so you don't even need to be that good a computer geek.

My problem I have with Firefox is that it won't save my name under Hotmail address. Every time I load up hotmail, the username section is blank. I click 'save my address' button, but it doesn't.
Irritating.

Irritating.Hmm, my firefox does do that for me.. Are you sure you didn't simply tell your browser not to save any of your information or something?

Opera is proprietary. Use Konqueror or Safari!

That's what I figured I probably did ages ago.
I've looked through all the settings and I can't find how to undo that, so I can save information on old pages.
Anyone know where I should look?

Anyone know where I should look?Best as I can tell it works with a cookie and a bit of javascript. So either not allowing javascript, or clearing cookies regularly might cause the problem.

I suppose in the worst case, you could install the greasemonkey extension and set up a userscript that fills in your name on the hotmail page.

That's an idea.
But it seems to me that this sort of thing would happen regularly (accidently clicking 'never remember' instead of 'always'), so surely there's an easy way in FireFox to remedy it.
Of course, I could always go to the FireFox site and ask there...

You could try about:config, and sort on 'status', to see if there's any obvious configuration setting you changed (the ones with 'user set' status).

That was true 5 or 10 years ago. These days there is a large market for profit making malware.

Deleted a dial-up connection option in the IE options thingy.
