Computer Tech Support Needed

Okay, so here I am being all nice and happy that my East Asian language files work perfectly, enjoying the various sites I can browse with full display of those characters.

Now, all of a sudden, today, the files seem to have disappeared, or at least in Firefox they no longer display. Instead, all I see everywhere are question marks. I don't understand why this suddenly happened. I'd reinstall the files from my Windows disc but I can't find it.

So I need some help here. The only recent thing I've installed that could possibly have ANYTHING to do with it at ALL is the Folding@Home software from Stanford University, and we all know something like that couldn't possibly destroy text support for specific languages. So, what is going on? Also, can anyone point me to somewhere on the internet I can find the files? All I'm getting on Google is help on how to install them and I already know that.

...so nobody can help me?

If it's just Firefox, I recommend going into VIEW --> CHARACTER ENCODING and setting your character set there.

Well, I tried that and nothing happened, so I think it's not Firefox but the files themselves that are missing. Thing is, I have no way of testing that, unless someone can toss a few random East Asian characters into a text file and post a link to the text file on here for me.

If you need a file with random East Asian characters, google is good for that, or an online translator would work.

Also: do you leave your computer on all the time, or shut it down at night? Because if you do the former and not the latter, perhaps a simple reboot may help.

Oh, I shut it down every night and turn the power strip off. Hell, this computer was only started up a few hours ago.

Still, I'll try a reboot, just in case that really is all I need to do.

If that fails and you don't see the text display right with a file, then I suggest getting out your Windows CD and using the Regional and Language Settings option in Control Panel, try and reinstall the character set.

That's the first thing I would have done if I could find my Windows CD. Unfortunately, I can't.
