The title says it all about the story. Should this guy be allowed to stop alimony payments to his ex-wife? I haven't heard of any case such as this before. What do you think?

Wicked! So if my ex change her sex and I do that aswell, she will pay me instead of the other way around? Hypothetical question, of course.

this isn't about who has what gender, it's about dependency.

when they were married, they both lived off of the husband's paycheck.

after the divorce, the wife had no way to support herself, so he had to until she could get back on her feet.

No. As a matter of fact, hell the fuck no. No matter what gender she becomes he is still his ex spouse.

Let's get one of our resident lawyers in here and ask if alimony is legally about need in the first place.

If the woman has enough money for a sex change operation, then she has enough money for herself and whatever kid they may have. I say take this to court and get the alimony payment stopped.

The very concept of American style alimony is a huge WTF here. Why oh why should the husband keep paying anything after the divorce, no matter who's paycheck they were living on?

If there are children and they go with the mother, then of course the father should also participate in their upkeep, this this money should be for the kids, not the mother.

All in all it sounds like an extension to a patriarchal system; it expects that in a marriage one party should depend on the other. I sure as hell cannot accept that, how can there possibly be equality in that kind of system?

Eh, it's a funny thing, it always seems like the guy gets screwed in divorces. The mother get the kids, she gets the money, and the father will only get to see his kids during visits or every other weekend. Now that if the ex-wife isn't being a total bitch. Now if she was a total bitch, she could get his kids pulled away from him, forever. Which has happened a few times too many here in the states.

This is why I probably will never get married, and if I do, I won't let the government get involved. In fact, government should stay out of marriages all together.
