Binary Currency

I was thinking today of the idea of binary currency, which would consist of notes valued at 1,2,4,8,16,32,64,.... This would allow change to be given more efficiently and save resources needed to print, among other things I can't think of. Any amount up to 127 currency units can be made with the above-stated denominations without repeating a denomination. :)

Anyone? Other reasons why this is good?

Too many denominations.

Good idea, but too drastic a change to ever be put into effect.

I think we should just go back to using shells and beads.

I think we should use salt as a currency.

Binary is good for computers, but bad for people.

Also, I think we should use gold as currency, but measured in grams, not ounces.

Uh...I meant denomenations...I do support gold or silver because gold is too costly.

There's an ingenious Pacific Islander tribe that uses large stones as currency. In a transaction, they leave the stones where they lie, and simply trade entitlement.

Interesting concept, eh?

Let's use body parts for currency. Well, certain body parts anyway.

Why not use protected, implantable personal finance chips that enable a person to access their account and/or pay for products at any time? We could also have upgrades or extensions to the chips for credit cards, even your credit score for loan approval with a single reading. Other upgrades for tax calculation and payments, securities trading, real time connections to financial institutions...the possibility is endless.

I'd get one as soon as they hit the market. No need for change or currency when the entire transaction is handled electronically.

I thought you were talking about some kind of electronic currency.

It sounds like a good idea, although it is still as anti-gay as the current currency denominations, since it does not allow for a 3-dollar bill.

Interesting...I guess it would be a good way to weed them out of the economy by raising fears of the end of the world. Maybe that's exactly what we need...

Paper money is a virtual representation of gold, which is a virtual representation of value, which is a virtual representation of labor.

Why don't we just virtually represent it with a number?
That way, we won't have to worry about change, printing, or denominations.

Wait...

Actually, in America it ISN'T, it hasn't represented gold for quite some time. Paper money in America represents . . . nothing. It is as Dave Barry put it the Tinkerbell principle, our money is worth money because we believe hard enough that it is.

But then again, so is gold. Although the metal has very significant applications in a ton of important fields (nanomedicine comes to mind), it's only been seen as valuable for the past few millenia because it's a shiny rock that can be made in to pretty shapes.

And so at last the beast fell and the unbelievers rejoiced.
But all was not lost, for from the ash rose a great bird.
The bird gazed down upon the unbelievers and cast fire
and thunder upon them. For the beast had been
reborn with its strength renewed, and the
followers of Mammon cowered in horror.
