I was under the impression that the Jackhammer never actually entered production. It's sort of like fusion power or peace in the middle east... doesn't exist yet.

Also, the Atchisson is better (though not as badass-looking).

I find it to have more than ample rounds in the magazine, and its slim profile to be worth having to carry a spare just in case.

Besides, a nicely tuned 1911 is superlatively accurate and the 45 round, especially an expanding one, does a superlative ammount of damage.

The P-90 is by far the greatest of all firearms, followed by LAW (although not really a firearm)

I also note that the illustration of that chick firing the P-90 is vastly inaccurate, as it would push her off her feat and into the nearest wall.

Sorry, But the P90 is overrated. Excellent weapon design, accurate, reliable, etc. But unfortunately, the most important thing about a firearms is the cartridge it shoots. The 5.7 is fast, yes, but it does not have enough mass to have any real damage potential. It's simple physics. On that note, if the girl in the picture was firing in that position, it would not knock her into a wall or anything. Possibly make her lose her balance due to the precarious position, but not much more. Remember Newton? Equal and Opposite Reaction? The only way she would get knocked on her a$$ or into a wall is if the bullet was at LEAST 200 grains and STILL travelling at those velocities (What was it, like 3300 fps? I can't remember).

From what I've been told, it'd be better for you to get the AR15 over the Mini-14. They shoot the same caliber ammo (.223/5.56 mm), but the AR is more accurate, and the AR-15 is much more customizable.
Graham Morrow
28-03-2007, 22:10
Favorite Handgun: Depends on the use. For anything but concealed carry, a full-size 1911 Government Model is more than capable of handling whatever you throw at it. Plus, if you can't solve a problem that necessitates force with seven rounds of .45 ACP +P with 230 gr. JHP's, its not a problem you're likely to solve. For concealed carry, I'd take a GLOCK 36 or a Kahr Arms P45, because you cant make a smaller, thinner .45. I'm a revolver fan for hunting purposes and home defense but for combat use they do not have a place. My favorite revolver would be the Smith and Wesson Model 327 TRR8, with Picatinny rails on the top and bottom for optics and lights.

Favorite Rifle: HK G3. Totally reliable, damned accurate and way lighter than a FAL. Plus it stands up better to sand. .308 is one of the best military rifle cartridges ever used, and the G3 handles it perfectly. The M14 is in the same class, but I'll take delayed blowback over a gas system because of the substantially reduced weight. In the realm of modern military rifles, virtually all of which use 7.62 x 39 or 5.56 x 45, the SAR-21 is, IMHO, the best of the breed.

Favorite Shotgun: Benelli M3. I love the SPAS-12 and the Benelli has the same convertible capability while being much easier to clean. Plus the SPAS-12 has been an NFA article for almost 20 years. My only complaint about inertia-driven shotguns is that they are not conducive to mounting optics; the extra weight can throw off the cycling.

Favorite Machinegun: Singapore's Ultimax 100. Less recoil than any weapon in its class, most controllable automatic weapon around. Uses constant recoil principle, reducing stress on the weapon and prolonging its useful life. I'm surprised the system isn't used more.

Possibly. Given that the first chance I'll probably have to legally own a firearm will be while I'm in University, price will also be a key consideration.

The Mini-14 was basically there as a cheapish (iirc) small caliber target rifle.

Possibly. Given that the first chance I'll probably have to legally own a firearm will be while I'm in University, price will also be a key consideration.

The Mini-14 was basically there as a cheapish (iirc) small caliber target rifle.

But the AR-15 isn't too much more than the Mini-14 (assuming you go for a K.I.S.S. AR-15).

Being semiauto instead of bolt-action.

Also, having twice as many rounds per magazine.

Both of which aren’t really much use for the Gun whereas the AW50F is lighter, easier to carry and able to use a very large variety of ammo (though you would be a fool not to use the standard)

Yes, I can see how being lighter is a great advantage in a weapon that rests on a bipod...

considering units such as paras will have to carry this weapon through miles of country I’d say so

There are many reasons why a semi-automatic rifle is less accurate than a bolt action, and it relates to both the weapon and the firer themselves.

Starting with the firer, most people tend to take more time placing a shot when using bolt action weapons, as they do not have the perceived security of an immediate backup shot that is available with a semi-automatic weapon. Granted with training this trait is removed but it still remains to an extent, certainly in the stress of combat.

From the weapon side of things, a bolt action rifle has less moving or indeed static parts than a gas operated rifle. In addition the bolt action will usually have a stronger chamber during the firing cycle because everything is immobile and there is not the gas operated cycling system moving everything around. Having locked the bolt in place, there will be no internal movement to influence the weapon while the bullet is travelling down the barrel and in general the less moving parts the better. Also by having fewer parts there is less likely-hood of something being miss-aligned or ill fitting. Take into account that the majority of bolt action rifles are bespoke, hand built with the best match barrels mated to the best possible trigger mechanisms and the best sights/stocks versus the mass produced nature of the semi-automatic weapon. The semi automatic rifles usually use detachable external magazines, whereas bolt actions tend to use lower capacity internal magazines, which again provide less chance of miss-alignment and thus miss-feeding of the round.

The calibre of the weapon is very significant, seeing as you are talking about .50 calibre weapons, the accuracy is relatively irrelevant as Western Nations do not use custom match ammunition for .50 rifles, using the very crude and inconsistent machine gun round, reflecting the prupose of the rifle as an anti-material (not anti-personnel) which requires less accuracy in general.

Despite all this it is highly likely a gifted marksman would be about as accurate with either weapon, mainly because any firearm will almost always be more accurate than the shooter is physically capable of performing, but in a perfect scenario the bolt action would be more accurate

I hope that made sense, ive been writing essays all day for uni and its fairly late, so please excuse mistakes or spelling errors!

As a side note, the semi-automatic will be far less accurate in a cold shot situation (i.e. a sniper style single shot without having fired for hours/days) due to the fact that in order to properly seal the round and seal the chamber the bolt must be driven by the gas mechanism, hand locking will not have the same strength, whereas the bolt action lock will be consistently strong and seat the round properly.

Have any of you guys fired a Galil (http://kalashnikov.guns.ru/foreign/galil.jpg)?

I always thought they looked cool, and I think the idea behind them was to have the bullet velocity of the M16 with the durability of the AK47.

Since they aren't widley used, I guess the idea didn't work out very well.

My super soaker 3000

Hell, I have a full armoury of super-soakers, topped off with an XL. Great for water gun fights. Just hook up the hose to the front pressure loader and you've got an infinite stream of water to defend the base and protect your flag.

And you're not technically using the hose. ;)
