I just don't understand . . .

During my time in the Corps, I dealt with, and helped a lot of peoples around the globe, but I just don't understand the factions of the middle east, willingness to kill innocent women and children in an attempt to further thier own political/social/religious beliefs. Rarely were we(Marines) the targets of attacks. Most times the targets were the civilian hubs of commerce. It seemed as if the various factions were trying to control thier little sector of land through the killing of the people that actually live there. I could understand if they attacked US troops on a continual basis, but they didn't. They continually attack thier own people, in a concerted effort to scare them into submission of the local regiem. We tried to protect the local people, but how do you defend against the guy that shook your hand in gratitude yesterday, and today is wearing 20lbs. of explosives, intending to blow up the local food market? I just don't understand that type of senseless killing. People say that Marines are fanatical, and that may be true, but they don't go around blowing up american citizens attempting to convince them that the "Marine Way" is the only way.
Ahh well. I'll prolly never understand it. Just letting off some steam after reading the various civilian death tolls today.

I just don't understand how the fighting could go on for so long.
Have you heard about an organisation called the Mafia? Seen the Godfather?
Imagine you're the cops...

Your talking about people who have been left with (what they feel) is the only alternative.
If you are wondering why they dislike you, even though youre only trying to help them, I would suggest you ask the 200,000 dead iraqi's since the war's inception.
Remember, they didnt ask for your (our) involvement.
They see you as a conquerer, and an ursurper. (even if the man who was ursurped was a douchebag).
In some cases, our bases are built upon thier holy ground, and that makes us bastards and infidels.
They are never going to accept us, and as long as they remain muslim, theyre going to hate us.
Nothing we do, up to and including complete withdrawal from Iraq, will change that.
Its also the result of arbitrary boundaries imposed without regard for the inhabitants and the inherent tensions that creates. Africa sees much the same problem.

That's just it, most of them DON"T dislike US servicemen, otherwise they would be killing us, instead of thier own people.

Extreme amount of cheering when we drive by if they hate us so much

We were VERY careful to respect thier holy sites, and help them re-build them when a faction destroys them
Nothing we do, up to and including complete withdrawal from Iraq, will change that.
Thats just it, when and if we ever withdraw from these countries, the killing will continue unabated.
If their mentality starts to make sense seek professional help.
They're fucking batshit insane.

Yeah, that was a real pisser to deal with, but we finially got a lot of the headsmen to agree to live peacefully
they're called Fanatics. Fanatics and Logic mix as well as Oil and Water. from afar, it's nice to view, but up close, it's a frakkin mess.

No no no...the mentality is easy to understand, and should be understood. It's if you AGREE with it that you should seek help.
Meh, people don't make sense.
