Stephen Colbert: "The troops are idiots."

Rhaomi
27-03-2007, 05:38
Recently, Stephen Colbert has taken some flak from Democratic congressmen, on the charge that he relies on extensive editing to skewer the representatives in his Better Know a District segments.

Well, he's now invited his critics to give him a taste of his own medicine by sitting down to a candid interview, and allowing viewers to take the raw footage and edit it into whatever form they choose.

Could a clever editor transform this innocent chat into a scandalous video indictment?

The answer *removes glasses dramatically* may surprise you.

Ummm...I think it's suppose to be obvious he twists those bkad things around to make Democrats sound dumb. He's a comedian pretending to be a crazed right-winger; he's not actually a Republican.

Actually, those things made democrats sound like idiots. :)

Not all of them, but when you think about it, some of them did.

Just watched that bit. I can't wait to see what an editor does with that list he read at the end of the interview with Ifill. And the bit about how Hillary Clinton is good on New Orleans because the one thing they need more than anything else is big dikes had me rolling.

I think they made that stuff too obvious. Hopefully, at least a handful of editors will get passed the "George Bush . . . Worst President Ever" and "I like cock . . . lots of cock . . ."
I won't actually try to be one of those editors, of course, because I am terminally lazy and actually doing something would take up valuable complaining time, but you get my pint.

Actually, democrats make themselves look stupid just by opening their mouths...and i can say that as a "lifelong" supporter of the Democratic party :p

I always thought the republicans looked stupid on his show... and a handful of liberals that just happened to also be stupid.

i find that i respect congressmen who go on the colbert report more than i did before they went on it (not that i know most of them).

its a big risk to take and taking it means they have a certain amount of security in who they are and what they stand for.

the ones that stand out most in my mind are the rep who was running unopposed and, at colberts urging, said why cocaine was so good and Eleanor Holmes Norton from dc who put up with him suggesting that the district of colombia wasnt part of the united states. shes so good she came back on the other night.

Sounds funny.

When I saw the thread title I thought this was going to be a Kerry-esque fuck-up, as opposed to a "Come on, edit me, I dare ya!"

"You helped write the federal sexual harassment guidelines during the Carter administration, correct?"

"Indeed."

"Then why are you undressing me with your eyes, Congresswoman?"

This is like when Homer Simpson went on that TV show during the episode he's accused of sexual harrassment. The clock in the back ground was hilarious.

How about that guy who wanted the ten commandments put up just about everywhere but couldn't even name half of them. Hard to respect that guy any, he simply looked like a fool.

Yes! Especially when Colbert can likely say them backwards while drunk. Have you seen that guy quote scripture?

One biography of him says that he teaches Sunday school . I wonder if that is still the case.

Wait for the second half. :D

(Also, sorry for the terrible syncing and quality, but ever since the Viacom's YouTube holocaust it's been nearly impossible to find good Colbert clips anywhere.)

Anyone who's shocked that they're being satirized on a satire doesn't need tricky editing to show they're idiots.
