Feeling a bit whimsical this morning, so I'd thought I'd do a history check.

Who here knows of the Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico and a bit of his history (where he lived and suchlike)?

For those who DO know, how'd you hear of him and what do you think of the reign of the only Emperor of the United States?

I haven't the slightest Idea of what you are talking about. But you have my attention. I do love history.

Edit: Heh, I Wiki'ied it. What an amazing person.

Emperor Norton, wasn't it? He was that guy in San Francisco during the 1800's, and truly one of the legendary IRL roleplayers.

I recall reading about him during a random article search on Wikipedia.

Issued his own money, shops in San Francisco accepted it, apparently.

I saw his article on wikipedia too. Pretty cool.

The crazy people of the past were way cooler than the ones nowadays. Even the classic napoleon crazy dude doesnt exist anymore

Norton I think. He was an eccentric rich fellow who once tried to control the entire rice market in San Francisco.

Eccentric? An understatement. Rich? He died a pauper.

I prefer Saint Adolf II among leaders of imaginary kingdoms or states..

Amazing what 35 years of solitary confinement can do to a person's mind. :p

The musical about him is playing here in SF, where Emperor Norton I reigned over his domain. One of these days I'm going to get some Norton money...

I think I first learnt about him from a Robert Anton Wilson novel. Can't remember which one.
