Ok cheese lovers!

Here. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/beds/bucks/herts/4044703.stm)

A cheese so smelly, it has been banned on public transportation in France. Although why anyone would take cheese on a subway is beyond me...

Would you try it?

World's smelliest cheese

Sounds like a Monty Python sketch.

absolutely! i'm a big fan of ripe camembert, which my family and flatmates make me put outside my window so it doesn't stink out the building, so i would definitely try this. i bet the price goes sky high now it's made the news though.

A cheese smellier than Limburger...it does indeed boggle the mind.

I tend to go in for the not-so-extreme cheeses. Feta, bleu, aged cheddar, etc.

I'm a big fan of the pre-cubed ones you can buy from the supermarket and just start popping into your mouth.

I had some good two-year-old Dutch chesse on Saturday.

'Good', in this case, coming from an un-cheese-educated American.

pre-cubed?! that's all wrong. that's even worse than pre-grated!

Smelly cheese, eh? How about this one: Harzer Käse (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harzer).

Having just read about it on wikipedia, yes I would try it:

This artisanal cheese is square in shape, at around 11 centimetres across and 4 centimetres high, and weighs up to 500g. It has a soft, elastic central pâte, surrounded by a moist, red-orange washed rind that is washed in beer during production

Though to be honest, if it's a particularly creamy cheese, I'm probably not going to like it.

As an amateur cheese connosieur, I would definitely try it.

Absolutely not. Notwithstanding my nation's name, I'm sensitive to strong smells. I get upset when my flatmates fry up a fillet of wet fish without opening the window.

Mmmm I love cheese, the stronger the better. The smelliest I've ever tried is Danish Tilsit, which was mind-blowingly awesome, but not too many exotic cheeses are available in my part of the world. Here people drink bud and eat big macs.
EDIT: Ifreann, you both love and hate strong cheese??

im in ur thread, obsoleting your sig.

I enjoy cheese a lot. While I certainly wouldn't call myself a cheese afficianodo, I do enjoy eating cheeses out of the cheddar-mozzerella-american families.

The most exotic cheese I've ever ate has been a smoked Bavarian cheese, I've also tried butterkase, and an Irish cheddar called Erin Gold. I'm trying to work up the courage to buy some of the cheese that as veins of mold in it.

Obsoleting my sig? fuck.... I knew this would be a high maintenance sig... maybe I should reconsider.

I'd give it a go. I draw the line at maggot cheese (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Casu_marzu) though.

Yes!

Anyway:
Sardinian cheese with LIVE worms in it. Even I couldn't eat it.

Then Appenzeller (swiss), Gorgonzola and Taleggio (lombard) and the legendary Puzzone di Moena (literally "Moena's Stinker") from Trentino. Oh, and the Formaggio di Fossa ("Pit Cheese"), tuscan. For reference about Formaggio di Fossa, ask Velka Morava.

Mmmm sounds so good. Too bad wikipedia either doesn't have articles on those, or they're in italian.

Yup :p
It's pretty strong stuff... but I never thought it was that strong!
Some tilsit with nice dark rye bread and a Chimay trappist beer.... that's pretty much the best thing I can think of at the moment.

Yeah, that's what I thought, too.
As for whether I would try it or not...well, let's just say that if I did, I would definitely have some breath mints handy. Or some Winterfresh. :)

One of the greatest joys of the universe is the knowledge that Stinking Bishop is carried across the pond and is occasionally available in my Long Island Cheese Shop. :D

Or in the words of that immortal voyager episode, "Take that cheese to sick bay!"
