If someone in your job is slacking off, and you find yourself having to do your job and part of their job as well how would you handle it?

Depends on the job. When I was waiting tables, I'd "accidentally" spill shit on them in the wait station. ;)

I keep my mouth shut and do it. Path of least resistance, and all that.

I'd immediately stop doing part of their job.

Go above their heads. HR? Manager? President?

If all that fails, I mail them a cardboard box filled with my poop.

Everybody in my work is a slacker. I'm not really sure how stuff gets done.

One of my last jobs was picking up the slack of others. I was technically a consultant hired to create a filing system. No one had bothered to put things where they belonged.

So, in short: do your job, and their job as a consultant for $12 an hour.

I'm the only person in the company with my job. I write the software that does everyone else's work for them :p

Make them buy you a donut for every one of their project/hrs.

Do the work that needs doing and get called back for the next gig when the other guy doesn't.

In Joe Jobs I was probably that slacker...

Nah, that's not true. I actually figured out how to keep my jobs going smoothly with as little effort as possible, and sometimes that meant taking care of things myself so that they where just done.

Watch the movie Office Space.

It's a problem of motivation, all right? Now if I work my ass off and Initech ships a few extra units, I don't see another dime, so where's the motivation? And here's another thing, I have eight different bosses right now. Eight, Bob. So that means when I make a mistake, I have eight different people coming by to tell me about it. That's my only real motivation is not to be hassled, that, and the fear of losing my job. But you know, Bob, that will only make someone work just hard enough not to get fired.

Really? Doesn't it bother you that they're off doing god knows what, while your stuck doing all the work?

I dump a bunch of my work on them, or just go off and do my own work if I felt nice enough to help them out in the first place.*

*Of course, I NEVER slack. EVER. ;)

lol. I've been guilty of slacking off myself. I think most people have. However, I've noticed that some people do it once in a while, but others do it ALL day EVERYDAY. Those are the one's I just wanna punch in the face.

I would report the issue to my manager giving a clear account of what I was having to do. I would then pester them until they sorted it.

Give 'em a swirly, and say there's another one coming if they don't shape up.

Of course it does.

But there's not much I can do about it. Half of the time my supervisors are the ones standing around doing nothing. Rather than bitch about it, which won't do me any favours whatsoever (i'm pretty much on the bottom rung of the workplace), i might as well just do it, since if I don't, the flak comes my way anyway.

If I were in a position where I could do something about it, I possibly would. But right now it's easier to just keep my mouth shut and get on with it.
