If you had to live in a country thats not your own

Which country would you pick to live in? Such as if you live in the UK, what country besides the UK would you want to live? And no, there will not be a poll, too many countries in the world and only 10 poll slots.

Germany, obviously. I'd still be on cycling distance from friends/school/parties/the gym. Germany won't require me to adapt too much (France would frustrate the shit out of me). like a tenth of the border villages consist out of Dutch anyway. The landscape (at least the Geman area bordering my community) is equally boring though.

Maybe some Nordic country- even though it's damn near impossible to immigrate without marrying someone, through a company based there, or having some uber awesome career skill that's in demand...

Germany or the Netherlands also sounds nice.

But since the US fails at second language education, Ireland looks pretty cool too (not sure if I want North or South).

If it were on a permanent basis, I'd probably move to Australia. It's kinda like an upside down Canada with more asians and less french. 2nd choice would probably be Switzerland, or at least a country that functions like Switzerland.

Because it's one of the most globalised and metropolitan countries around. You're likely to meet people from everywhere in the world.

The economy is going splendidly, so there's lots of money to be made.

There's pubs, bars, operas and other cultural stuff to enjoy.

The climate is pretty close to what I personally would call ideal.

I like the sound of Irish.

The only thing I can think of that speaks against it is that I'm not a huge fan of pale redhead girls, but as I said, it's a very international place now...

not every girl in ireland is pale and redheaded. in fact most of the readheads i know are english, even though i live in scotland. which is kind of odd now i think of it. i think about 10% of the irish population is supposed to be ginger, 13% for scotland.

whoah. Weird coincidence here:
The pale redhead girl association of Ireland took a vote recently and it came out that they're not big fans of you either.

How about South Africa. I believe that there is a lot to see there in terms of wildlife and game reserves, and I also believe that companies there are short of skilled employees, so that it would be easy for an educated person to find work. I heard its got quite a problem with violence though, with rates of murder, rape and highjackings being among the highest in the world.

cameroi feels that we don't know honestly and objectively, nor could we without spending a couple of years there, about any country to pick one.

we have a list though, of those there are things about, or which we are of the understanding there are things about, we find attractive to us.
it is a somewhat ecclectic list, and yet perhapse some slight pattern might be discernable.

nepal
japan
new zealand
france
canada
switzerland
possibly even hugo chavez' venezualla
finland
sweeden
netherlands

(in no particular order)

essential features being mountains, ('narrow gauge')trains, mostly forested, non-christo/islamic/judaic, nongratuitously pseudoconventional.

obviously no single nation on earth meets all of our criteria.
nor is this short list all of them.

yet each of the countries named has features we feel redeaming, perhapse sufficiently so, dispite this handicap.
