I think it's mighty ironic that the state that witnessed the birth of modern radical Islamic fundamentalism, spurred on by the writings of Sayyid Qutb, now deems it necessary to remove civil liberties in the name of defense from said fundamentalism.

Like it already wasn't a police state? The country's been in a perpetual state of emergency for awhile, to say the least ;p.

Better questions:

Is a secular dictatorship better for these people than a theocratic democracy?

Is a secular dictatorship there better for the West than a theocratic democracy?

Does theocracy lead to terrorism or does dictatorial repression?

All open questions.
