It's good to be in DC, hooray!

Well fell denizens of NSG, I'm reporting in from Washington, DC, Capitol of the United States. I'm beginning a ten week internship down here, with the interview being Tuesday morning. I hope this stuff goes well, but as I'm already accepted into the University's program, I'll hopefully be in good stead.

I was shocked though, this is definitely not a beer city. An awful lot wine (Two buck Chuck, holla!), but so little beer. I finally tracked down a Czech Pilsner at Trader Joe's (which was delicious), but ten different stores, and two hours of walking. Viel Spass.

If I get into any "blue dress" incidents with the President, you'll be the first to know!

Try and get into a LoudBomb show. Bob Mould kicks all ass, man, and he's always in D.C. (well, he *does* live there), so don't miss out.

I was going to say, stay away from blue dresses and men with cigars.

Good luck. Congratulations. Have fun.

Will do, I'd love to see Bob Mould. After you introduced me to him, I've added some of his stuff to my library. Pretty enjoyable.

On a side note, there's people talking in German across the lobby, and I'm eavesdropping on them.

It's good to be in DC, hooray!

As a resident of the DC area for the past decade, I fear it is my duty to inform you that you are sadly mistaken.

I would rather be in... pretty much any other state or region in the union. DC is beyond boring... *shudder*

Friday night at a cigar store, a friend and I decided to drive (through mist and thunderstorms, as it turned out), right then, up to las vegas so we could get casa fuente cigars.

We arrived about 2 am, drank a lot, wandered around, lost some money, chased some tail until about 830, slept in his car for a little while, got our cigars at 10 when casa fuente (which employs God's Most Perfect Creation) opened, and drove back to Sunny Phoenix.

I think my adventure was more fun :)

What are they saying?

They were talking about a discrepency of opinion with their boss, just a little while ago, but it ended with a "Aber, er ist der Chef" and a shrug.

Make sure to go to the Hawk and Dove on Penn Ave SE (300 block?). I saw Howard Dean there just a couple weeks ago. Make sure to eat a Chili Half Smoke at Ben's Chili Bowl (across the street from U St. / Cardozo / African-American Civil War Memorial station on the Green/off-hours Yellow line) and don't forget to visit the monuments at night - they are so much more beautiful all lit up.

Now that the Court has struck down the unconstitutional gun ban, I can do that...unfortunately, I've not got the cash to do so *cries*

Try Rodmans or Macgruders grocery stores for beer. The brickskeller is good, and you can check out http://www.realbeer.com/destinations/washingtondc/index.php for other places.

Thank you all very much for the input, but I'd better get off to bed sometime soon. My alarm is set for seven, and it's eleven now. Big fun.

You can get two cheap saturday night specials from Phoenix arms for like 150 bucks I imagine.

You need two in case the first one won't shoot.

And a home-made rubber band gun in case the secondary gun jams.

I refuse to read your post because it says capitol instead of capital. Unless you were referring to the Capitol [Building].

DC is indeed a beer swilling city.
I second the recommendation of the Brickskeller, but there are a lot of good bars with fabulous selections of beer. Any type from practically anywhere in the world can be had, you just have to know where to go.

Ben's chili bowl is an absolute must. Go drinking in Adams Morgan or Dupont Circle then walk it off on the way down to Ben's for chili fries or a chili halfsmoke. The veggie chili tastes a little odd to my carnivorous pallet, but my vegetarian ex loved it.

There is a crazy guy who I see there every once in a while, hanging out asking for change. One night I didnt have any coins, just a dollar bill. Only time I have ever had a beggar give me change back.
