To'ther day dear old Gordan told the nation his 11th and last budget.

Basic rate of income tax cut to 20p from 22p, from April 2008

Top-rate income tax threshold to rise to £43,000, from £38,000

Corporation tax cut to 28 per cent, from 30 per cent

Beer up 1p a pint, wine up 5p a bottle, duty on spirits frozen

Cigarettes up 11p for a packet of 20. VAT on nicotine replacements down to 5 per cent

Fuel duty up 2p a litre. Rise delayed for 6 months, until October

Top-rate road tax up, by April 2008, to £400

For most fuel-efficient cars, road duty cut to £35, from £50

Cash Isa limit up to £3,600

Income tax reduced to two rates by removing the 10p band on non savings income

"Budget to expand prosperity and fairness for families"

"Long-term reforms" needed to meet global challenges

UK economy growing faster than other G7 countries

UK growth forecast at 2.5 per cent to 3 per cent in 2008/09

The papers seem to be saying that he is incresing tax for the poor but trying to cover it up with the 2p drom in income tax. what do you think?

I'd rant about the removal of the starter rate for income tax again, but I'm tired and hungry so I can't be bothered.

I'm on a low income and I'm out of pocket as a result of the budget. Generally if you're a single male with no children and you're not blessed with a nice fat pay cheque, you're at risk of losing out. God bless the starter tax, or lack thereof. Not to mention the other tax hikes in other areas, particularly motoring. So yeah, the papers are right. There's a first time for everything, though, eh?

Its just another way to try and bolster the youth popualtion. "Have kids or it will cost you more in tax".
