Hey, their is something at my university called 'Harmony Week' at my university which is supposedly celebrating the mutli national and ethnic makeup of our university, which has a mostly visa student enrolement. Nothing really happens, but their is a big map and ballons in our library which has paper thing which students can put on the map to indicate where they were born. We have students from Iran to Ireland and beyond, but is mostly Chinese/Japanese students. Although it's finished now they are still keeping the flag etc around.

In this light I thought I would do something as equally tolerant and make today on NSG Harmony Day, where we will all be tolerant (fat chance right? ). So everyone, please post where you were born and now live, and other details who would like to say.

Thanks.

How does knowing where people come from make them more tolerant?

I was born in London, and now live about 30 miles outside of it.

Yeah, Harmony Day is Australia wide. It coincides with some UN anti-racism thing. I much prefer my uni's multicultural day when we have all food stalls everywhere.

Yes, they are doing this across all of Australian primary schools too. You know, they make the immigrant kids isolate themselves for the benefit of PC. I like the idea, everyone learning about other's cultures and broadening their horizons, however I fear that it will only serve to further isolate ethnic children, and stir resentment and envy in 'Anglo-Australian' children (in not actually having a culture worth comparing).

Heh. We had Harmony Day on Wednesday. Then yesterday was National Chlamydia Day or something. I guess some people got a little too harmonious.

That being said, everytime they hold one of these multi-cultralism inspired days the mean quality of food in Australia spikes upward 200-800%.

Why can't we just have a 'multicultral year' or even a 'harmony decade'?

CHINESE STUDENT: But I have to study! I am here for uni in the first place!
G-MAN: Shut and be multicultral bitch! Now cook me some cha siu.

Why on Earth would you have 'Harmony Week' straight after 'One World Week'... they might as well just scrap both and we can have a tacky tolerance-themed weekend in between.

Oh, and born in Leeds, UK, now live in Lancaster, UK (for studyin') and Birmingham, UK (for not studyin').
