I've been captured..

.. on a news camera.

My friend and I were out walking in the local mall this afternoon, and I noticed a news crew working on a story, I'm guessing it's about how the mall was just bought by another company..

The store we were walking to was impossible to get to without crossing the camera, so we waited a little while until they finished and started walking away. We continued on our way, thinking it was safe. Moments later I looked up and noticed the camera man pointing his camera in our direction. After quietly yelping "Oh shit shit shit shit!" I just looked at the guy and subtly gestured him to stop filming us, then ran into The Gap..

Well my friend was left all alone in the hall. The poor kid..

Well then they started filming yet again and trapping us in the process.. then yet again while we were going to get a drink.

I hope they don't use any of that footage.. *cries*

I'm not the kind of person who goes "Hey! Look! A news camera! *runs over to get on tv*" I'm the kind of person who hides from any camera, so is the person I was walking with.

To add.. anything to this..

Have you ever been filmed on a news camera, willingly or not?

Yes, I have.

Where I figure skate, news cameras come on the opening day. They like to film us figure skaters.

I really don't mind, as long as they don't get in our way.

Yes. I've been filmed both voluntarily and involuntarily. Usually for good reason. :)

Unless it was live they aren't likely to use any footage where the people are aware of the camera, it looks too much like home movies.

I try to stay away from the lense side of the camera as much as possible but now and then I just can't. I never check to see if I made the cut.

Nope. Not that I'm aware of, anyway.

Yeah, one time they were putting together a segment for the sports part of the national news (they asked a question and edited together a montage out of people answering). Another time I got interviewed after I was in a jewellery store while it was being robbed.

I dont think that I've been filmed for the news any other time, although I've been filmed for other productions.

Yup. Made it on air too, possibly even in other countries. I was an athlete escort for the Special Olympics award ceremonies in Kill Equestarian Centre, in whatever year it was that it was in Ireland.

Flipping the camera guy off is a good way to stay off camera. Odds are they won't edit out the gesture just to put you on air.

You have a town called Kill? Damn that's stressful...

See, 'round here our cities are named things like Cool (http://www.google.com/maps?q=Cool,+CA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title) and Weed (http://www.google.com/maps?q=Cool,+CA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title)...

Though I guess we have our fair share of Deadwoods (http://www.google.com/maps?q=Cool,+CA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title) and Tombstone (http://www.google.com/maps?q=Cool,+CA,+USA&sa=X&oi=map&ct=title)...

EDIT: Hmmm...all of those are links to Cool, California...stupid Google maps not working the way I thought it did...

My weekend job was getting alot of attention last year because of some troubles we were having with the city. The news reporters weould regularly come out and film us, interview us, then go and make up some bullshit and run it on the news.

Needless to say, I'm not a big fan of news crews or camaras. Although I have learned how to damage control quite well. Many times I was able to get them to leave voluntarily because I convinced them there was no story.

There was a bomb scare in the town center so everyone was crowding around these police barriers. We were being filmed. When I saw the news, I was on there with a cheesy grin whilst everyone else looked all worried and frightened. :p

Nobody, lol. Well I've done some work here and there in da biz, but I'm in my final year of training for da biz. A vox pop is just when you interview random people on the street. When I was working at the local paper they made me do it because it was summer and really hot outside and I was a n00b.

It's cos the English are idiots. In Irish the town is called Coill, which means wood(as in a small forest). But the foolish English must have heard the name and decided to call it Kill. Stupid English. They did that a lot.

I hate cameras. I also hate microphones. You run into radio news teams even more often here than into camera teams and hell if I want to become a soundbite on their shows.

The most awkward one was when I was in this tiny new store that was in the media a lot for a while and of course I enter the store to no customers but one camera team. Gah. They really tried to get me to buy something while they filmed me but I resisted. Felt all sheepish because I guess the shop owners would have liked it but meh.

I've been on the radio! I requested Baby Got Back, and had a lil Q&A about the subject with the host!

Aye. I dressed up with my friends in costume for the midnight premiere of Star Wars 3. I went as Lando Calrissian, and as we were the largest group of people dressed up there, we were interviewed by the local news network that had showed up.

Yes, I'm such a fucking nerd :p

I managed to get my ugly mug on the news once. The first year I owned my business, a toronto news station picked my company (I'm assuming by closing their eyes and picking a company at random) to illustrate the 'busiest moving day of the year'.

I'm kinda short, and have a 'high forehead', so I came across as kinda short and shiny, with the sun glaring off of me. I managed to get in some line about the business being 'feast or famine' or some such nonsense. Most of the footage was of our crew moving furniture while another moving truck showed up unannounced. We actually came off looking pretty good, whereas the other movers looked rather unprofessional.

Still didn't help much in the long run. Although people I know did say they saw me on tv. *shrugs*

The rule of thumb is that if you're in a private place, they need your permission. If you're in a public place, they don't.
'Private' = 'place where there is a reasonable expectation of privacy', so any part of a shop other than the doorway or right in front of the window would be covered.
