Water on the Laptop

So...I...uh...just dumped a whole bunch of water on my laptop (about an hour and a half ago). I think I've got it all dried out and working semi-properly (as I am clearly posting this). Should I look out for anything?

If it's just water, you might be okay. Be glad it wasn't soda or booze.

It appears, if you're using the laptop, that all is well. I might be inclined to take a hair dryer and blow it dry.

Good, I learned my lesson about computing and booze a long time ago.

My (limited) experience with computers and liquids is that it's not the liquid that bothers the computer so much (assuming it doesn't spark immediately) as it is the gunk in the liquid that does bad things to the electronic connections.

I spilled a cup of coffee on a Sun Sparc-10 keyboard way back when. It zapped it instantly. Boy were those things expensive to replace.

Seeing how my TV survived the whole bunch of water I spilled on (and hence into) it a few weeks ago, I say go with letting it dry out real good. Longer than an hour and a half, though, i.e. if you don't have anything urgent to do on it today (NSG doesn't count) then let it sit and dry and do *gasp* soemthing off the computer for a change. ;)

For me, it was only a standard PS/2 keyboard, and it was white wine, but thirty bucks meant a lot back then.

Close it.

Let it dry off.

Leave it off for a while, maybe a couple days just to be on the safe side.

Of course, it could always be worse: you could spill alcohol, coffee, or McDonald's Chicken McNugget Buffalo sauce on it, all of which happened to a friend of mine (alcohol), another friend (coffee), and me (Buffalo sauce).
