The spring is here...

German Nightmare

...and so is the winter?!?

It is the first day of spring and apparently, also the first day of winter.

While we didn't have any snow in the last three months except for one afternoon on which it didn't even stick - this is the second day that it snows around here - and it's really cold (again).

Seriously, this is a little unexpected because I had already written this winter off as a total failure and now it's here, back with a vengeance one might say.

I don't know what I am to make of this. Sure, it's not the first time it snows that late in the year, but in the last 30 years I haven't witnessed that it snows for the first time as much as it does now this late in the year.

Here I was getting ready for springtime and scantily clad girls - now I'm just glad I haven't stowed away my winter jacket yet.

Gah! Anyway, I just needed this off my (snowcovered) chest.

Oh yeah, i might add:

Spring is here, a-suh-puh-ring is here.
Life is skittles and life is beer.
I think the loveliest time of the year is the spring.
I do, don't you? 'Course you do.
But there's one thing that makes spring complete for me,
And makes every Sunday a treat for me.

All the world seems in tune
On a spring afternoon,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.
Every Sunday you'll see
My sweetheart and me,
As we poison the pigeons in the park.

When they see us coming, the birdies all try an' hide,
But they still go for peanuts when coated with cyanide.
The sun's shining bright,
Everything seems all right,
When we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We've gained notoriety,
And caused much anxiety
In the Audubon Society
With our games.
They call it impiety
And lack of propriety,
And quite a variety
Of unpleasant names.
But it's not against any religion
To want to dispose of a pigeon.

So if Sunday you're free,
Why don't you come with me,
And we'll poison the pigeons in the park.
And maybe we'll do
In a squirrel* or two,
While we're poisoning pigeons in the park.

We'll murder them all amid laughter and merriment,
Except for the few we take home to experiment.
My pulse will be quickenin'
With each drop of strych'nine
We feed to a pigeon.
(It just takes a smidgin!)
To poison a pigeon in the park.

That's weather for you. It's chaotic and sometimes a climate doesn't always determine the proper weather patterns for a day. We've had snow in July in 80 degree weather here in Colorado before. It was really freaky...but no less freaky than thundersnow or sun showers.

I normally wouldn't either. A coworker happened upon their new promotion and brought it to my attention at lunch today. (McDonald's)

Yeah, I sat in class last week at around 11am-ish with all the windows open and I had to take my sweater off because it was so hot, and around two hours later when I walked home it damn snowed on me. Needless to say I put my sweater back on.

Honestly, the weather has been a rollercoaster these days - makes dressing a challenge every morning ;P That, and somewhere deep inside, it stirs an abstract fear about what the fuck is wrong when things are that messed up..

I'm not really complaining that it snows - I'm just more than a little surprised that it snows now instead of 2 months ago when it would've been appropriate.

Yes, I usually put on way too much - but it's easier and better taking clothes off when it gets too warm instead of freezing because there's no next layer you can put on.
And I do share your sentiment about things being messed up.
Yeah, that kind of weather is normally reserved for April...
Exactly. Makes you wonder what does come in April. Last year it was already quite hot in March and then turned ugly again in April and May.
Climate change rears its ugly head yet again...
I've got the feeling that in the last 4-5 years the regular weather patterns happen about 6-8 weeks later than they usually would.

Wonderful, wonderful Britain. Last Thursday was probably the warmest day of the year so far, then Friday was freezing because of the wind, and I heard a guy in town say that it was likely to snow over the weekend. I thought he was just talking crap...then it snowed on Sunday. Not much - not even enough to settle () - but it snowed. Then Monday was lovely and warm, Tuesday it snowed, yesterday was lovely and warm, and today it's grey grey grey. Maybe it'll snow. Who knows?

Here its the oposite. Autum has started, and it looks like its summer.

First, it has rained in the last two days. In the summer, it barely rained. So much that there werent a lot of bugs around. Now, there are bugs everywhere, so much that I probabily saw a few new species just today. And I guess its because it was not raining in the summer.

Well, I have to admit that I usually neither fancy nor expect snow in April. I mean, "April, April der macht was er will", but it usually keeps it hands off the freeziness, no?

It only gets messy when you go to uni by bike and try to take off (and somehow transport with you) several layers of now superflous clothing while still making it in the planned 17 minutes ;P

It takes more time than that - besides, the outer layers are usually wet from snow/sleet/rain while the innermost layer is sweaty. You simply cannot win this one! (As a sidenote - I just got home in pouring rain, driving through mushy snow, and now I'm waiting for my stuff to dry for I'll take off in about half an hour again!)
