But I'm not trying to. I'm skinny enough. I'm losing weight because of the Concerta (which I take for ADD).
I was about 102-104lbs back in May 2006.. After band camp I weighed 97 lbs, but right before I went back on teh medz, I weighed about 101.
Now I'm 98 lbs. Which is not good at all. :(
Is there any ways to gain weight, or am I doomed to my Concerta-induced anorexia forever?

also weigtlifting and stuff, but i don't think you want that.

Pork pies, deep fried in lard.
I prescribe (as a thoroughly unqualified non-medical non-doctor) two of the large, party-sized ones (at least 1lb each in weight) prepared like this, per day, until you see some improvement in your condition :)

When I first started taking an antidepressant I lost 8kg (16 pounds) in 4 weeks.
I simply wasn't hungry at all and that wasn't a very healthy way of improving my health, so I switched medication.
Maybe you can switch to another drug as well that has less side-effects?
Other than that - may I suggest that you give yourself a daily treat of Ben & Jerry's half-baked Ice Creams or something like that?
It'd be a real shame to see such a nice lady like yourself turn down skinny road.

Unfortunately, that's the problem. Concerta suppresses my appetite, so I basically have to force myself to eat. And when I force myself I can't eat too much or I feel sick.

You're a freshman?
I say eat like I do. I eat until I'm full, and then eat some more. That should put some meat on them bones.
EDIT: Oops, serves me right for not reading. Yeah, see if you can get your meds changed if it's really bothering you. Or become a supermodel. They do like the skinny ones.

Does your doctor know about this? To my mind, this is not an acceptable side effect. You should tell him so he can try another med or adjust the dosage on this one.

Watch the food network. That always helps me get an appetite.
Also, use stairs less often, stairs made me inadvertently lose weight.

If you've only lost three pounds, I wouldn't worry too much yet - people frequently gain and lose more than that over the course of a single day, after all. However, if the weight loss continues, it could obviously become problematic. Talk to your doctor. It may well be that taking a slightly smaller dose of your medication or switching to an alternative medication will be what you need.

your doctor may have a different Med that won't cause weight loss.
Most ADD meds cause appetite supression, because of their amphetamine-like effects.
Is ADD your only mental illness? Some SSRIs can help with attention as well. I was on Prozac, however, and that made concentrating harder for me. I haven't been diagnosed with ADD or ADHD, but I do have a lot of trouble sitting still and concentrating.
Also, you need to eat things like nuts, dried fruit, avocado, lollies, fruit juice and other beverages high in calories. These will not fill you up as much, so you can eat more of them.

When I was 14-15 I dropped from 175 to 135lbs, mostly due to growing and not eating enough, it's possible, you being a girl and all that you've gone through that part of your life already.
When I took Ritalin I lost alot of weight at first, although as I grew accustomed to the drug in my system it had less of an appetite suppressant effect.

I'm 5'4, too. I'm supposed to be heavier, aren't I?
Maybe a bit, but teenagers tend to have a wider healthy weight range then adults.
If your appetite is still dead in a month, or if you start looking like Nicole Richie, that might be a good sign it's time to get help.

You don't need drugs for your different brain. Stop taking them. :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle: :fluffle:
But I'm not trying to. I'm skinny enough. I'm losing weight because of the Concerta (which I take for ADD).
I was about 102-104lbs back in May 2006.. After band camp I weighed 97 lbs, but right before I went back on teh medz, I weighed about 101.
Now I'm 98 lbs. Which is not good at all. :(
Is there any ways to gain weight, or am I doomed to my Concerta-induced anorexia forever?
Heh...I'm mildly envious...but enough of that.
First, speak to your doctor. Second, if you're going to eat more to try to counter this, which is probably your best bet, don't make it lots of fatty, nutrition-deprived foods. Just make it more of the healthy foods, like vegetables, chicken, some seafood, and all that stuff. And make sure it's cooked in a healthy manner too. The last thing you want to do is start up on a path of eating poorly and then finding out you've got the opposite situation on your hands.

Before you tell someone to stop taking the medication that a doctor has instructed them to take you will need to produce your license to practice medicine.
Are you on some ADD medication? From what I've heard some of those can cause you to lose a lot of weight.

Thread this is Zarakon, Zarakon this is the thread. I suggest you read it as it contains the answer to your question in multiple places.
Are you on some ADD medication? From what I've heard some of those can cause you to lose a lot of weight.... LOL.

So I'm guessing you have ADD/ADHD, then?
Okay, enough humour at his expense.
Any, Pancake, whatever you do, don't stop taking your medication unless your doctor tell you to stop. None of us are doctors. Most of us know jack shit about health and wellness and the few that do, such as Fass, aren't even posting in here. So, in essence, talk to your doctor, and don't do anything stupid, like stopping your meds, eating lots of unhealthy foods, or listening to people who try to claim they know more than a doctor.
Being a football player I know all about how to put on insane amounts of weight...and then immediately having to lose it for wrestling season. :(
Best way to gain weight: chocolate milk and peanut butter and jelly sandmiches. Tuna is also a good choice.
Your best bet is to go to a doctor though as I don't think 15lbs of Whey Protein shakes are as desirable for you as they are me. :p

Idiot.
Most people with ADD need their meds to work and study.
Heh. My bro had the famous "false alarm" ADD.

How can it be a false alarm? Was he just being hyper and not listening? Misbehaving isn't ADHD.
I guess he was. Except the doctor said it was. My dad would say that they just diagnosed to diagnose.

I hope it's not the Super AIDS.
Just eat more. Maybe take up drinking beer. That should help keep the pounds on.

generally speaking eating more helps the whole weight gain thing.
Bah, you fail at being unhealthily underweight. I'm male and I weigh 43kgs. [refuses to subscribe to nonmetric system] Beat that. :p
